Description
**Ice And Fire: Bond Beyond 🐉🌊**
*What if some of the creatures from Ice and Fire could become more than enemies?*
Ice And Fire: Bond Beyond is an unofficial addon for Ice and Fire: Dragons, developed by Gravtian.
The idea behind Bond Beyond is simple: instead of only fighting, hunting, or avoiding these creatures, players should also have the opportunity to hatch them, raise them, care for them, equip them, travel with them, and eventually form a bond with them. ❤️
Bond Beyond requires the original Ice and Fire mod. It is a separate addon, not a standalone replacement or an official continuation of Ice and Fire.
Sea Serpents are the first creatures to receive this expanded companion system.
**🌊 Version History — 0.1.0 to 0.2.2**
Each update builds on the previous release. Earlier features remain included unless a later change is explained below.
**🥚 Version 0.1.0 — The Companion Foundation**
Version 0.1.0 introduced the foundations of raising Sea Serpents as companions.
- **Sea Serpent Eggs:** Eggs in seven colors corresponding to the existing Sea Serpent variants.
- **Hatching:** Hatch eggs into young Sea Serpents and raise them from an early age.
- **Taming and Ownership:** Tame hatchlings with fish and establish player ownership.
- **Growth:** Young Sea Serpents grow over time instead of immediately becoming fully grown creatures.
- **Feeding and Breeding:** Additional feeding and breeding mechanics designed around their nature as aquatic predators.
- **Riding:** Ride tamed Sea Serpents and explore the oceans together.
- **Sea Serpent Saddle:** Equipment for riding and managing companions.
- **Sea Serpent Armor:** Protect and customize your Sea Serpent.
- **Companion Management:** Additional interactions for caring for and commanding an owned creature.
Later updates expand these systems. In the current version, Sea Serpent armor incorporates its riding saddle.
**⚒️ Version 0.2.0 — Steel, Forging, Equipment, and Ocean Editions**
Version 0.2.0 introduced underwater forging, new weapons and shields, expanded creature equipment, elemental interactions, harvestable remains, and an in-game field guide.
It also introduced separate Tectonic and Vanilla Ocean editions.
**⚒️ Sea Serpent Steel and Underwater Forging**
Build a submerged Sea Serpent Forge using matching Sea Serpent bricks, bone blocks, a forge core, and an input.
Combine iron and Sea Serpent blood, then supply the forge with a Sea Serpent’s water breath to produce Sea Serpent Steel.
You can power the forge while riding. Eligible tamed Sea Serpents can also supply breath automatically, with further improvements described under version 0.2.2.
Sea Serpent Steel can be used to create:
- Swords and melee tools.
- Mining and utility tools.
- Bows and arrows.
- Player armor.
- Sea Serpent armor.
- Dragon armor.
- Sea Serpent Steel shields.
Sea Serpent Steel weapons inflict Drowning, including slowing effects and water particles—even on dry land.
Player armor provides aquatic benefits, including Water Breathing and Strength bonuses while wet.
**⚔️ Sea Serpent Bone and Blood Swords**
Craft a Sea Serpent Bone Sword, then combine it with Sea Serpent blood to create a Sea Serpent Blood Sword.
Their appearance follows Ice and Fire’s familiar sword designs, using pale Sea Serpent bone colors and a water-colored effect for the blood blade.
The Sea Serpent Blood Sword inflicts Drowning.
**🛡️ Elemental Tower Shields**
Four large shields provide elemental retaliation when successfully blocking an eligible attacker:
- **Fire Dragonsteel Shield:** Burns the attacker.
- **Ice Dragonsteel Shield:** Freezes the attacker.
- **Lightning Dragonsteel Shield:** Applies electrical attacks through the connected arc system.
- **Sea Serpent Steel Shield:** Inflicts Drowning.
**⚡ Connected Lightning Arcs**
Lightning Dragonsteel weapons and the Lightning Dragonbone Blood Sword use electrical arcs connecting their targets.
This replaces the affected weapons’ old sky-bolt attack. Lightning shields use the same arc system.
**🔥❄️⚡ Elemental Matchups**
Sea Serpent breath behaves as a water attack.
Water-breath damage against dragons:
- **Fire Dragon:** ×1.6 damage.
- **Ice Dragon:** ×1.5 damage.
- **Lightning Dragon:** ×1.0 damage.
Incoming elemental damage against Sea Serpents:
- **Fire:** ×1.0 damage.
- **Ice:** ×1.3 damage.
- **Lightning:** ×1.6 damage.
A multiplier of ×1.0 means ordinary damage, not immunity.
Appropriate elemental armor removes the additional weakness multiplier. Dragons require a complete matching armor set, while Sea Serpents use their corresponding complete armor item.
For example, a Fire Dragon wearing a complete Ice Dragonsteel armor set avoids the additional ice weakness multiplier. Sea Serpent Steel dragon armor can remove the additional water weakness multiplier.
This protection removes the extra weakness damage. Ordinary damage and status effects still apply.
**🛡️ Expanded Creature Equipment**
Equipment additions include:
- Netherite armor for Sea Serpents and dragons.
- Dragonsteel equipment with species-appropriate dragon textures.
- Sea Serpent Steel armor for Fire, Ice, and Lightning Dragons.
- Sea Serpent Steel armor for Sea Serpents.
- Retextured Sea Serpent armor.
- Separate armor coverage over fin roots and supports, leaving the membranes visible.
- Updated equipment recipes and item artwork.
Fin armor appears while the relevant armor is equipped and disappears when it is removed.
**🌊 Water Breath and Terrain Erosion**
Both wild and tamed Sea Serpents can inflict Drowning with their water breath. Higher growth stages apply the effect for longer.
Water breath also erodes suitable terrain:
**Dirt → Gravel → Sand**
Each eligible erosion change advances the affected block by one step.
Version 0.2.0 introduced erosion areas that increased with growth stage:
- **Stages 1–3:** A 3 × 3 × 3 area.
- **Stage 4:** A rounded area within 5 × 5 × 5.
- **Stage 5:** A rounded area within 7 × 7 × 7.
These describe the original 0.2.0 implementation. Version 0.2.2 reworks erosion for multi-bubble breath, using shared limits and less uniform terrain changes.
Erosion respects the world’s mobGriefing setting.
**🦴 Remains, Skeletons, and Skulls**
Sea Serpents leave harvestable remains after death.
Collect scales, meat, blood, bones, and fangs through the harvesting system. Harvested loot drops into the world for players to collect.
The creature’s size is preserved through:
**Corpse → Skeleton → Skull**
A giant Ancient Sea Serpent can leave a giant skeleton and skull instead of having its remains reset to a smaller size.
Skulls can be placed as decorations and retain their saved size when picked up and placed again.
**📈 Growth and Wild Spawn Ages**
Wild Sea Serpents can spawn with different ages within their valid growth stage.
Age, stage, and scale remain consistent, rather than giving every creature of the same stage an identical age.
This randomization applies to the initial age of wild spawns. Growth continues normally afterward.
Dragon Meals support growth, while Sickly Dragon Meals can permanently stop it.
**🧭 Dragon Seekers**
Dragon Seekers help players locate dragons, with upgraded tiers offering different detection ranges and target filters.
**📖 Bilingual Field Guide**
A Vietnamese/English field guide is automatically given once when a player first joins a world.
It includes a clickable table of contents and instructions covering creature care, equipment, forging, combat, and other addon systems.
The guide has no crafting recipe and does not replace the vanilla Book and Quill recipe.
It is not repeatedly granted on login or respawn.
**⚔️ Version 0.2.1 — Wild Combat and Forge Improvements**
Version 0.2.1 focuses on improving wild Sea Serpent combat and extending the expanded combat systems to wild creatures.
**🫧 Fixed Wild Bubble Projectiles**
Wild Sea Serpents use Bond Beyond’s corrected bubble projectile instead of relying on the problematic original Ice and Fire bubble behavior.
**🦷 Improved Wild Melee AI**
Wild Sea Serpent melee behavior was improved to make close-range attacks more reliable and natural.
**📈 Stage-Based Wild Damage**
The existing stage-based damage system was extended to wild Sea Serpent attacks, including:
- Melee attacks.
- Bubble breath.
- Jump and breach attacks.
- Other damaging attacks covered by the shared combat system.
Version 0.2.2 further develops combat scaling around stage and age.
**🌊 Shared Breath Effects**
Wild Sea Serpents receive the Drowning, status effects, and terrain erosion used by the expanded breath system.
These mechanics also apply to eligible attacks from tamed Sea Serpents when nobody is riding them.
**⚒️ Forge Breath Erosion**
Forge breath can affect suitable terrain around and beneath the forge, bringing its environmental effects closer to dragon breath around a Dragon Forge.
Erosion behavior was also adjusted to look less uniform.
**🔧 Shared Combat Logic**
Wild, AI-controlled tamed, mounted, and forge breath use shared projectile and combat logic where appropriate, helping keep their behavior consistent.
**🐍 Version 0.2.2 — Breath Rework and Companion Improvements**
Version 0.2.2 expands breath visuals, attack coverage, companion behavior, riding options, configuration, and everyday usability.
**🫧 Continuous Multi-Bubble Breath**
Sea Serpent breath produces a continuous spray of multiple bubbles instead of relying on a single narrow line of projectiles.
The spray includes:
- Bubbles originating from the mouth.
- Mixed bubble sizes, including smaller bubbles.
- A loose, widening spread inspired by dragon breath.
- Independent water particles emitted alongside the bubbles.
- Additional water particles on impact.
- Increasing bubble density and sensible spread as stage and scale increase.
This system applies to wild, tamed, mounted, and forge breath.
The spray is intended to look like a forceful stream of water, with natural variation rather than a perfectly shaped cone.
**💥 Broader Attack Coverage and Gentle Knockback**
Breath can affect nearby visible enemies around its impact area, making it easier to hit targets than with a single narrow projectile line.
Eligible hits also apply gentle knockback.
Damage is balanced across the stream so that increasing the number of bubbles does not simply multiply the total damage.
Decorative water particles do not deal damage.
Wild Sea Serpent damage follows the stage and age scaling used by the expanded combat system.
**🌱 Controlled, Less Uniform Erosion**
The larger number of bubbles shares an erosion budget, preventing every visible droplet from independently changing a full area.
The updated system includes:
- Less uniform block selection.
- Shared limits across the breath stream.
- Smaller erosion budgets for younger stages.
- A cooldown before the same block can be changed again.
- The same controls for forge breath.
By default, Stage 5 breath is limited to 20 eligible soil changes per second, with a 40-tick cooldown before the same block can be changed again.
Erosion respects mobGriefing and applicable Forge cancellation checks. Its behavior can be adjusted through configuration.
**🏇 Riding Camera and Aiming**
Additional camera settings help improve the riding perspective, particularly on larger Sea Serpents.
Options include camera distance, height, field of view, and aiming preferences.
Mounted abilities include:
- Biting.
- Water-bubble breath.
- Breach and slam attacks.
- Vertical swimming controls.
**❤️ Owner Defense and Target Assistance**
Tamed Sea Serpents can respond when their owner attacks a mob or is attacked by one.
Their assistance is not restricted to underwater targets, and a target being another Sea Serpent does not automatically prevent combat.
- Nearby enemies can be bitten.
- More distant enemies can be attacked with breath.
- Pets belonging to the same owner are protected from this owner-assistance targeting.
**🐾 Wander, Stay, and Follow**
Use the Dragon Command Staff to switch between companion commands.
Automatic water-seeking behavior activates only while the Sea Serpent is set to Wander.
It is disabled in Stay and Follow modes.
During ordinary following, the Sea Serpent focuses on its owner and moves toward them. Combat can take priority when an eligible threat appears.
**⚒️ Automatic Forge Assistance**
A nearby tamed Sea Serpent of Stage 3 or higher can supply breath to a working forge while set to Wander or Stay.
When the forge has work and its input is reachable, the Sea Serpent holds its position and breathes toward the forge.
Mounted forging remains available.
**📯 Sea Serpent Horn**
The Sea Serpent Horn lets you store and release a Sea Serpent.
Its appearance follows Ice and Fire’s Dragon Horn design:
- A pale, Sea Serpent bone-colored appearance while empty.
- A dark blue, Sea Serpent-themed appearance while occupied.
Stored creatures retain their saved identity, ownership, age, size, health, and equipment.
A filled horn can release its Sea Serpent by clicking directly on a water block, as well as at a valid solid-block placement location.
If placement fails, the Sea Serpent remains stored in the horn.
**❤️ Wander-Only Breeding**
Both Sea Serpents must be set to Wander before they can breed.
The other breeding requirements still apply, including maturity, compatible sexes, ownership, health, the Heart of the Sea progression system, and breeding cooldowns.
**📖 Updated Field Guide**
The guide has been updated to explain the newer mechanics.
Existing addon guides can refresh their contents in place without repeatedly giving players additional copies.
**⚙️ Client and Server Configuration**
Configuration options cover:
- Riding camera and field of view.
- Breath visuals and particle density.
- Attack area and knockback.
- Terrain erosion.
- Growth and ocean temperature bonuses.
- Egg incubation depth and pressure.
- Wild female egg-drop chances.
Warmer oceans can accelerate growth. The default warm-ocean growth multiplier is ×1.3.
Sea Serpents can reach a maximum scale of 11 at 125 days under the current growth system.
**🔧 Spartan Fire Extras Compatibility Fix**
A targeted fix addresses the reported sword mixin conflict involving Bond Beyond and Spartan Fire Extras.
This addresses that specific startup conflict; compatibility with every possible mod combination is not implied.
**🥚 Updated Wild Egg Drops**
Earlier versions restricted hunting-based egg drops to Ancient female Sea Serpents, with an additional chance roll.
The current 0.2.2 balance removes the separate Ancient requirement and uses the wild female’s growth stage instead.
Default chances:
- **Stage 1–2:** No egg drop.
- **Stage 3:** 25% chance to drop one egg.
- **Stage 4:** 50% chance to drop one egg.
- **Stage 5:** Guaranteed to drop one egg.
Additional rules:
- The egg matches the mother’s color variant.
- Male Sea Serpents do not drop eggs.
- Hunting-based egg drops apply to eligible wild females, not owned or player-hatched companions.
- The egg roll happens at death.
- Harvesting or reloading the corpse does not grant additional egg rolls.
- Egg drops respect doMobLoot.
- Stage 3, 4, and 5 chances can be changed in the server configuration.
Breeding remains another way to obtain eggs.
**🔍 Optional Jade Integration**
When Jade is installed, its entity tooltip can display the stored sex of supported creatures.
This includes Sea Serpents, dragons, Cockatrices, and other Ice and Fire or Bond Beyond creatures with a recognized existing sex field.
- Displays Male or Female.
- Supports English and Vietnamese labels.
- Reads existing creature data without assigning or rerolling sex.
- Omits the label when no supported sex data exists.
- Can be toggled through Jade’s plugin settings.
Jade is optional. Bond Beyond works without it.
For multiplayer, install Jade on both the client and server to use the server-supplied sex tooltip.
This integration does not add new taming or breeding systems to other creatures.
**🌍 Tectonic Edition and Vanilla Ocean Edition**
Both editions contain the same creatures, equipment, combat features, forging system, companion mechanics, and optional Jade support.
Their differences are the Tectonic dependency and the default egg depth and pressure balance.
**🌍 Tectonic Edition**
Designed for players using Tectonic.
Default incubation settings:
- Minimum continuous water above the egg: **15 blocks**.
- Pressure-safe water depth above the egg: **up to 20 blocks**.
- Stronger pressure penalties beyond the safe depth.
Required mods:
- Ice and Fire: Dragons.
- Citadel.
- A compatible Forge 1.20.1 release of Tectonic from the 2.4.x branch.
**🌊 Vanilla Ocean Edition**
Designed for standard Minecraft oceans.
Default incubation settings:
- Minimum continuous water above the egg: **8 blocks**.
- Pressure-safe water depth above the egg: **up to 32 blocks**.
- Gentler pressure penalties beyond the safe depth.
Required mods:
- Ice and Fire: Dragons.
- Citadel.
**Tectonic is not required.**
The Vanilla Ocean edition adjusts Bond Beyond’s mechanics. It does not replace existing terrain or generate Tectonic oceans.
**🥚 Incubation Rules for Both Editions**
Eggs must remain submerged in a suitable ocean biome.
Ocean temperature affects incubation speed, and excessive water pressure can damage or break an egg.
The depth and pressure values above are defaults and can be adjusted through the current configuration system.
**📦 Which Edition Should I Install?**
Choose **Tectonic Edition** for a compatible Tectonic setup.
Choose **Vanilla Ocean Edition** for standard ocean depths without a Tectonic requirement.
Install only one edition at a time. Both editions use the same mod ID.
Multiplayer clients and servers should use the same edition and release revision.
**❤️ What Makes Bond Beyond Different?**
Ice and Fire provides the creatures, models, systems, and foundation that make this addon possible.
Bond Beyond builds additional experiences around that foundation.
Instead of asking only:
“How do I defeat this creature?”
Bond Beyond also asks:
“What would happen if I raised one?”
“How would I care for it?”
“How would I protect it?”
“Could we explore and fight together?”
The goal is to deepen the relationship between players and selected creatures while preserving the danger and identity of their wild counterparts.
**🔮 Future Development**
Sea Serpents are the beginning.
Potential future expansions include:
- 🐍 Hydras.
- 🪶 Stymphalian Birds.
- 🐜 Myrmex.
- ✨ Other selected Ice and Fire creatures.
Each creature should receive mechanics suited to its own behavior rather than sharing one generic taming system.
The current companion expansion focuses on Sea Serpents. Planned creature expansions should not be treated as included features until they are implemented and announced as ready.
**⚠️ Beta Notice**
