Incensed

Turn torches, candles, lanterns and campfires into effect incenses.
Includes a large focus on traversing worlds with enhanced world generation, structures, dungeons, and more for players to find unique loot.
Data Packs were introduced to vanilla Minecraft in version 1.13 and allow the server to modify data about the game, or run commands. Data Packs are compatible with all mod loaders.
Forge is a popular mod loader for versions 1.1+ of Minecraft.
Neoforge is a fork of the Minecraft Forge available for versions 1.20.1+ of Minecraft. Many Forge mods are compatible with Neoforge and vice versa.
Fabric is a mod loader for versions 1.14+ of Minecraft, particularly popular for client side and optimization mods.
Quilt is a fork of the Fabric mod loader. Many Fabric mods are compatible with Quilt and vice versa.

Description
Incensed
What it does
This datapack lets lit campfires, candles, torches, lanterns and other supported blocks absorb potion effects and grant them to nearby entities, with matching colored particles.
Effects can be added by using a potion directly, throwing a potion or firing a Tipped Arrow. Incenses can hold multiple effects at once, each with its own remaining duration.
Interactions
Looking at an incense while holding a supported item shows the available interaction in the actionbar.
By default:
- Potions add their effects.
- Flint and Steel and Fire Charges prime the incense.
- Blaze Powder extends every stored effect.
- Resin Clumps (Honeycombs in older versions) hide incense particles.
- Shears reveal incense particles.
- Milk Buckets clear the incense completely and become empty Buckets.
Flaming Arrows, Fireballs and Lightning Bolts can also prime incenses.
Customization
Use /function incensed:_config to configure:
- Effect sources and append behavior.
- Priming requirements and duration.
- Default incense rules, priming modes and effect modes.
- Affected-entity particles, effect duration and range.
- Signal-fire range.
- Fuel duration.
- Actionbar and particle cycling.
- Incense, smoke and target particles.
- Interaction particles and sounds.
- Debug categories and message subscriptions.
Settings are divided into General, Default Incenses, Feedback and Debug screens. Each setting can be reset individually, or the entire configuration can be restored to its defaults.
Default Incenses
The Default Incenses screen can automatically initialize matching blocks as soon as they are placed.
Rules are checked in order, with the last matching rule taking priority. Each rule can:
- Match block IDs or block tags.
- Add one or more effects with custom amplifiers and tick-based durations, including
-1for infinite. - Choose Manual, Active or Auto priming behavior.
- Choose whether later effect sources merge with or replace the current effects.
By default, configured effects become active immediately and later sources merge into them. Force controls can make the global Priming and Effect modes override every rule.
No default rules are enabled automatically. The in-game help includes a ready-to-use infinite Regeneration campfire example.
Priming and Effects
The general priming requirement can be set to Never, Once or Always.
By default, an ordinary incense only needs to be primed before receiving its first effect, and priming lasts for 60 seconds. Negative priming durations remain active indefinitely.
Appending is enabled by default, so different effects and amplifier levels are stored separately. Matching effects with the same amplifier combine their remaining durations.
Blaze Powder extends every stored effect by 60 seconds by default, with a configurable multiplier for each effect.
When an incense contains multiple effects, its particles cycle through their colors at the configured Particle Cycle interval. Potions with a custom color use that color instead.
Affected Entities
Incenses apply effects to entity types in #incensed:affected_entities.
Players are included by default. Add mobs or other supported entity types to the tag to let them receive incense effects as well.
Tags
Edit #incensed:incensable to change which blocks can become incenses.
The item and entity-type versions of #incensed:effect_sources control supported effect sources, while #incensed:affected_entities controls which entities receive effects.
Additional tags control:
- Igniter items and entities.
- Fuel and cleanser items.
- Items that hide or reveal particles.
- Item consumption, durability and replacement containers.
- Particle placement, size and smoke behavior.
Players and mobs can also transfer their active effects through contact when added to the entity-type effect-source tag, but none are included there by default.
Uninstallation
If you ever need to remove the datapack, use /function incensed:uninstall to remove its persistent data.
What's Next
In future updates, I plan to expand incense customization with more interactions and config options, such as:
- Adding more item-based upgrades for custom behaviors, such as scaring certain mobs away, or selecting which types of entities are affected.
