Description
Incursions
You built a portal. Something on the other side noticed.
Minecraft portals have always worked in one direction: you build one, step through, and go looking for trouble somewhere else. But why should you be the only one allowed to cross dimensions?
Incursions changes that.
Incursions is a standalone Minecraft mod that introduces hostile invasions through active dimensional portals. Creatures from the Nether, Aether, Undergarden, and Twilight Forest can cross into your world, turning an otherwise ordinary day into a fight you weren't expecting. These aren't constant attacks or endless mob farms. Incursions are occasional, unpredictable encounters designed to make dimensional travel feel a little more dangerous, while giving players a worthwhile reason to fight back.
How It Works
When an eligible dimensional portal is active, there's a chance an incursion will occur. Hostile creatures emerge in waves, with the possibility of a more powerful enemy joining the attack. Each dimension has its own enemy selection, encounter behavior, and reward possibilities.
- The Nether: Familiar enemies from Minecraft's most unpleasant vacation destination.
- The Aether: Creatures from the skies, including some that are considerably less friendly than their surroundings suggest.
- The Undergarden: Hostile inhabitants from a dimension that was already perfectly happy being left alone.
- The Twilight Forest: Creatures from the forest's many dangerous corners, now interested in visiting yours.
Any incursion can come out of any portal that's installed and active. so if you have an Aether and Nether portal active, those two will be eligible to create incursions. If you break a portal, nothing will come out of it and that mods mobs will not come out of other active portals anymore. By default, it's set up to occur once per day, per server, so on multiplayer instances, a player shouldn't expect an incursion every day but you never know! Only one incursion can be active at a time, so you won't find yourself defending against four dimensions simultaneously.
Rewards Worth Fighting For
Surviving an incursion should feel worthwhile.
Successful encounters can reward players with loot drawn from the dimension responsible for the attack, including opportunities to obtain more valuable items. Rewards are designed around the difficulty of the encounter. You're fighting off a dimensional invasion, not delivering groceries. A handful of sticks and some rotten flesh aren't exactly appropriate compensation.
Optional Dimension Support
The Nether is supported without additional dimension mods.
Incursions also integrates with:
- The Aether
- The Undergarden
- The Twilight Forest
These integrations are optional. You can install whichever supported dimension mods you want, and Incursions will use the ones available.
Player Controls
Not everyone wants their portals attracting unwanted visitors. Incursions includes an in-game control accessible from Minecraft's pause menu, allowing players to enable or disable incursions without digging through configuration files. The system also includes cooldowns and encounter limits to prevent invasions from becoming a constant interruption. The goal is occasional excitement, not making you regret building a Nether portal next to your house.
Designed for Modded Minecraft
Incursions is built as an independent mod, intended to fit into existing modded Minecraft experiences without requiring an entire custom modpack. Whether you're exploring several dimensions, building a heavily modded survival world, or just looking for another reason to keep your sword handy, Incursions adds a little uncertainty to something Minecraft players have taken for granted for years.
Compatibility
- Minecraft: Java Edition 1.21.1
- Mod Loader: NeoForge
- Java: 21
- Optional Integrations: The Aether, The Undergarden, Twilight Forest
One Last Thing
You've spent years invading other dimensions, raiding their structures, fighting their inhabitants, and dragging their valuables back through your portals. Eventually, somebody was bound to get curious about where you live.
Incursions. The portals work both ways.
