Description
Isle of Berk Performance Patches
A lightweight performance companion for Isle of Berk 1.2.0 on Minecraft 1.18.2.
This mod reduces repeated client and server-side work across dragon AI, rendering, particles, pathfinding, resource handling, and GeckoLib lookups while preserving the original Isle of Berk gameplay and visual behavior.
This is an add-on, not a replacement or reupload of Isle of Berk. The original Isle of Berk mod remains required.
Features
Dragon AI and timing
- Configurable flight and follow-movement pacing to reduce repeated movement requests.
- Configurable dragon egg hatch-check intervals.
- Configurable ShockEffect particle intervals.
- Preserves ShockEffect damage timing.
- Cleans up temporary AI and goal state when dragon activities start or stop.
Dragon rendering
- Reduces repeated model, texture, animation, glow, and saddle-resource lookups.
- Covers the major Isle of Berk dragon renderer and model families, including:
- Deadly Nadder
- Gronckle
- Light Fury
- Monstrous Nightmare
- Night Fury
- Night Light
- Skrill
- Speed Stinger
- Speed Stinger Leader
- Stinger
- Terrible Terror
- Triple Stryke
- Zippleback
- Reuses fixed egg-animation and projectile resources.
- Preserves dynamic variants, titan-wing selections, changing resources, and fallback behavior.
- Does not replace complete renderer methods or alter the original rendering flow.
GeckoLib improvements
- Reduces repeated dragon bone lookups used during animation and rendering.
- Automatically falls back to the original GeckoLib lookup behavior if the model structure changes.
- Keeps dynamic model data and modified bone lists safe.
Particle rendering
- Reduces temporary allocations during Isle of Berk particle rendering.
- Improves repeated camera and render-data lookups for:
- Fire Bolt
- Fire Coat
- Flame
- Fury Bolt
- Gas
- Skrill Lightning
- Skrill Skill
Pathfinding
- Reuses temporary pathfinding data for flying dragon navigation.
- Removes a redundant block-position update.
- Preserves the original pathfinding behavior and uses safe fallbacks when reuse is not possible.
Client effects and network handling
- Reduces repeated client lookups while handling shock-particle effects.
- Reduces repeated client lookups during dragon taming-particle effects.
- Preserves the original particle behavior, random-number usage, and effect timing.
Variant Loader compatibility
Variant Loader remains responsible for dynamic dragon model and resource selection when it is installed.
The performance companion automatically avoids overlapping resource optimizations when Variant Loader is detected, helping the two mods work together without overriding Variant Loader's selection behavior.
On compatible Variant Loader 2.7.0 clients, the mod can also skip unnecessary passenger-render work when a dragon has no passengers. This optional optimization disables itself if the installed Variant Loader layout is not compatible.
Compatibility
- Minecraft 1.18.2
- Forge 40.3.x
- Java 17
- Isle of Berk 1.2.0
- GeckoLib 3.0.57
- Variant Loader is optional.
The original Isle of Berk mod is required. This mod does not replace or redistribute Isle of Berk files.
The Isle of Berk Deadlock Fix is a separate companion mod and is not included.
Installation
- Install Forge 40.3.x for Minecraft 1.18.2.
- Install the original Isle of Berk 1.2.0 mod.
- Install GeckoLib Forge 3.0.57.
- Install
isleof-berk-performance-patches-1.3.4.jar. - Install the same performance-patch version on both the client and server for multiplayer.
- If using Variant Loader, install it separately.
- Do not install the standalone passenger-render companion alongside this combined mod.
Configuration
The generated configuration file is:
text
config/isleofberkperformance.toml
Available settings include:
ai_move_throttling_enabledai_move_interval_ticksegg_hatch_check_interval_ticksshock_particle_interval_ticks
Lower intervals perform checks more frequently and may reduce the benefit of throttling. Higher intervals reduce repeated work but can change AI pacing, egg-check timing, or particle frequency.
Scope
This mod focuses on targeted performance improvements while preserving original gameplay behavior.
It does not change:
- Combat rules or damage calculations
- Dragon targeting behavior
- Network protocols
- World generation
- Dynamic model selection
- Non-empty passenger rendering
- Random-number consumption in supported effect paths
Performance results depend on dragon count, render distance, particles, shaders, world activity, and hardware. No universal FPS, MSPT, RAM, or gameplay improvement is guaranteed.
License
The performance-companion source and metadata are MIT licensed.
Isle of Berk, GeckoLib, Variant Loader, and the separate Deadlock Fix mod remain independent projects and dependencies.
