《▓ JEI Rewired ▓》
V1.2.0 | Forge & Fabric 1.20.1
《▒ So what does Rewired do? ▒》
JEI is great until you throw it into a pack with hundreds of mods, tens of thousands of recipes and plugins doing god knows what on startup (reincarnation of hell)...
Then you join a world and everything freezes for 10 seconds. Beautiful.
JEI Rewired optimizes the actual work behind that. Faster recipe processing, search, sorting, lower allocations and background startup powered by Quantified API, without intentionally removing recipes or breaking JEI functionality.
《▒ About some of the claimed startup benchmarks :L ▒》
Some competing JEI optimization mods report faster loading times by preparing recipes and other JEI data in stages, leaving work unfinished when their startup timer stops...
Personally nothing is wrong with that, but I personally don't consider it a fair comparison against an implementation measuring when recipes, search and the runtime are actually usable, rather seem usable .
Finishing the loading screen doesn't mean you've finished the work xd.
Rewired also uses background processing, but measures actual readiness rather than just how quickly Minecraft appears ready for the user.
《▒ What's optimized? ▒》
- Recipe processing: Less repeated work during registration and recipe lookups.
- Search: Faster filtering, indexing, intersections and tokenization.
- Sorting: More efficient handling of large mod lists.
- Background startup: Suitable work runs through Quantified API instead of blocking the client thread.
- Compatibility: Client-sensitive operations stay on the main thread, with fallback if background startup fails.
《▒ The actual numbers (as always) ▒》
Original production-pack tests on a Ryzen Z1 Extreme (ROG Ally), Forge 1.20.1, JEI 15.59.0.212, 237 mods and 77,070 recipes.
| Test | Normal JEI | Rewired |
|---|---|---|
| Cold startup | 14.1–14.2 s | 7.1–8.5 s |
| JEI restart freeze | 7.1–10.0 s | 2.1–3.4 s |
| Vanilla recipe processing | 4.8–5.4 s | 1.7–1.9 s |
| Ingredient filter | ~2.0 s | ~0.2 s |
| Visible recipes | 77,070 | 77,070 |
The biggest improvement is still that massive freeze. The longest observed cold join gap with Rewired was 4.0-6.3 seconds in this pack.
《▒ What's new in V1.2.0? ▒》
Compared with older October 22 Rewired captures, the latest measurements show:
| Operation | Older | Current | Improvement |
|---|---|---|---|
| Runtime publication | 2,519 ms | 1,983 ms | 21.3% |
| All recipes usable | 2,533 ms | 2,010 ms | 20.6% |
| 24-query search cycle | 24.16 ms | 9.40 ms | 61.1% |
| Search-cycle P95 | 27.27 ms | 11.91 ms | 56.3% |
| Native recipe lookups | 29.50 ms | 8.66 ms | 70.6% |
| Custom recipe lookups | 8.07 ms | 3.93 ms | 51.3% |
| Combined registration allocation | 268.03 MiB | 258.90 MiB | 3.41% |
Some individual search queries improved by 80-90%, while isolated sorting tests showed up to 95.41% lower execution time with 256 configured mods.
《▒ And the recipes? ▒》
All 77,070 recipes are still there. Same 13,098 items, 113 fluids, 116 visible categories and matching recipe/search results as normal JEI in the tested pack.
Because what's the point of making JEI faster if half the stuff you're looking for isn't there lmao.
《▒ Compatibility & safety ▒》
JEI plugins weren't exactly designed around asynchronous startup, so Rewired doesn't just throw everything onto a worker and pray xd.
Client-sensitive operations stay on Minecraft's thread. If a plugin throws during background startup, Rewired retries normally and disables async startup for that session.
If your pack has issues, disable it using asyncStart=false in config/jeirewired.properties. The other optimizations still work :]
Minecraft 1.20.1 | Forge & Fabric | One OmniJar
Requires Just Enough Items and Quantified API V2, installed separately.
《▒ One last thing ▒》
JEI Rewired is an independent performance addon, NOT a JEI fork, reupload or replacement. It doesn't use code from competing optimization mods either.
I'm not claiming it's the fastest JEI optimizer in existence. I just want benchmarks to measure actual completed work instead of who can make a loading screen disappear first xd.

Thanks to the JEI developers for making JEI in the first place. Found something broken? Send me your logs, JEI version, loader and modpack :]
