About
Description
JRH Magic adds a full spellcasting system to survival Minecraft, built around crafting, exploration, and collecting spells over time.
You brew reagents in an Athanor, use those reagents to inscribe spells onto Blank Scrolls at a Sigil Desk, and bind the finished scrolls into a Spellbook. There is no separate dimension or boss progression required to get started. You can begin using the system fairly early and build toward the Magnum Opus as your spell collection grows.
Requires Fabric API.
Brewing Reagents
The Athanor is used to brew eight reagents:
Brimstone, Nitre, Gallowsroot, Quicksilver, Theriac, Henbane, Quintessence, and Natron.
These reagents are the ingredients used to create spells. Getting the materials for them is a large part of the early progression and gives you reasons to seek out different resources as you explore.
Inscribing Spells
At the Sigil Desk, reagents can be combined with a Blank Scroll to create a spell scroll.
There are forty spells, ranging from straightforward attacks like Firebolt and Rime (Chill) to utility and higher-level magic such as Gate Travel, Sanctuary, Mirror Image, and Summon Familiar.
Scrolls can be used on their own, so you do not need a Spellbook before you can start casting.
Building a Spellbook
Spell scrolls can be bound into a Spellbook. As your collection grows, the book can be upgraded through six ranks:
Commonplace Book
Vade Mecum
Codex
Grimoire
Apocrypha
Magnum Opus
Higher ranks can hold more spells, allowing the same book to grow alongside your collection instead of being replaced every time you progress.
Persistent Magic
Some spells create things that remain in the world instead of disappearing after they are cast.
Ward Sigils, Spans, Gates, and Sanctuaries can all be placed and left behind. A Gate can become part of your travel network, a Span can stay across a ravine, and a Sanctuary can remain where you built it.
This makes some forms of magic useful as part of your base and world infrastructure, not just during combat.
