You can craft chain armor!

(OXO)

(XOX)      makes 8 chain links!

(OXO)

X=iron ingot

(OXY)

(XOX)    makes 4 chains!

(YXO)

X = chain link, Y = iron ingot

Use chains normally to make the armor!
