Description
Lava Genesis
You are not someone who lives near a volcano. You are the volcano.
You are born as a single spark of lava inside the magma chamber of a small undersea volcano, built just for you in the nearest deep ocean. Melt the rock, drink the lava, grow. Push out onto the sea floor, pile up pillow lava into a seamount, break the surface in a burst of steam, and raise a Hawaiian-style chain of islands across the sea - until your home island rises into a Great Volcano with a lava lake in its summit caldera.
Nine stages of a hotspot volcano
| Stage | Body size | What it takes |
|---|---|---|
| Ember | 10% | your start |
| Magma Droplet | 18% | 60 mass |
| Lava Flow | 30% | 200 mass, 8 Magma Shards |
| Seamount | 50% | 500 mass, 4 Olivine |
| Islet | 75% | 900 mass, 1 island of 120+ land columns |
| Shield Island | 100% | 1600 mass, island of 600, 8 Pele's Tears |
| Island Chain | 140% | 2800 mass, 3 islands, 8 Sulfur Crystals |
| Archipelago | 200% | 4500 mass, 5 islands, 16 Volcanic Glass |
| Great Volcano | 300% | 7000 mass, 6 islands, largest 2500, the Hotspot Heart |
Islands are measured for real: every few seconds your Hotspot Vents flood-fill the volcanic land connected to them above sea level.
Your body is lava
- Immune to fire and lava; swim through lava like water and see through it.
- Heat is your life: water cools a tiny Ember to stone in seconds, while a Seamount barely notices the sea.
- Sneak in lava to absorb it for mass. Stand in lava near your home vent and the hotspot feeds you.
- A glowing magma blob at first, then a cracked lava golem that grows to three times human size.
- A new gift at every stage: lava-walking that turns the sea under your steps into cooling rock, a fire aura, steam jumps, lava sight, and flight for the Great Volcano.
Nine powers (R use, V switch, G Flare)
Flare (melt rock), Lava Spit, Flow Surge, Pillow Mound, Eruption, Shield Flow, Hotspot Leap (arc over the ocean and seed a new island with its own vent), Bomb Rain and the Great Eruption. Lava really flows: it runs downhill, fills shallow sea, builds steep cones underwater and gentle shield slopes above the waves, with black sand beaches.
A living volcanic world
24 volcanic blocks: cooling lava that ages into basalt (black sand at the shore, pillow lava and olivine in the deep), molten rock, fumaroles that grow sulfur, glassy basalt, volcanic ash and soils. Bare rock weathers into soil and turns green with ferns, silverswords, ohia lehua trees and coconut palms. Olivine and hydrothermal fields generate on ocean floors.
Plus: a HUD with every requirement, a Lava Journal guide book, 22 advancements and a big finale.
