About
Description
Limited Lifes turns death into a meaningful part of progression.
Players have a configurable number of lives. Every death removes one life, and reaching zero can eliminate the player until someone performs a resurrection.
Instead of being just another hardcore lives counter, Limited Lifes introduces an entire progression system built around recovering lives, resurrection rituals, and the Life Forge.
❤️ Limited Lives
Every player starts with a configurable amount of lives.
By default:
- Players start with 3 lives
- Maximum lives: 5
- Every death removes 1 life
- Reaching 0 lives places the player into Spectator mode
- The death screen can be skipped automatically
- Creative-mode deaths can be ignored
All values are configurable.
🔥 Life Forge
The Life Forge is the central block of the mod.
It is used to:
- Create Life Hearts
- Create Revival Sigils
- Perform resurrection rituals
- Revive eliminated players
The forge requires a proper multiblock structure before powerful rituals can be performed.
Its purpose is to make resurrection feel like an important event rather than a simple crafting recipe.
❤️ Life Heart
The Life Heart restores a lost life.
It cannot normally be used to revive a player who has already reached zero lives.
Life Hearts are intentionally expensive so that death remains meaningful.
✨ Revival Sigil
The Revival Sigil is a key component used by the Life Forge to bring eliminated players back.
Resurrection becomes progressively more expensive as the same player is revived multiple times.
☠️ Meaningful Deaths
When a player dies, Limited Lifes can announce the real Minecraft death cause to everyone on the server.
Example:
☠ DrAbbud was slain by a Zombie · ❤ 2/5 lives
Final deaths are clearly announced:
☠ DrAbbud fell from a high place · ❤ 0/5 lives — ELIMINATED
A custom global death sound can also be played for every connected player.
🔊 Global Death Sound
Limited Lifes includes a custom death sound.
When somebody dies:
- Every player can hear it
- Distance does not matter
- Dimension does not matter
- The dead player also hears it after respawning
The sound can be enabled, disabled, and configured.
👁 Life Display
Remaining lives can be displayed directly in-game.
Player name
Example:
3 ♥ Lives
Player list / TAB
Example:
❤ 3/5 lives
The display changes color depending on how close the player is to elimination.
⚒️ Multiblock Structure
The Life Forge uses a real multiblock structure.
Players must construct the required ritual structure around the forge before using its most powerful functions.
Structure validation detects:
- Correct blocks
- Missing blocks
- Incorrect blocks
- Required pedestals
- Ritual components
The structure system is designed to make resurrection feel like an actual late-game achievement.
👻 Structure Preview
The Life Forge can provide visual construction assistance using holographic / ghost blocks.
This allows players to see where required blocks belong without having to read raw coordinates or block IDs.
Correct, missing, and incorrect positions can be visually distinguished.
📖 JEI Integration
Limited Lifes integrates with JEI.
Players can inspect:
- Life Heart requirements
- Revival Sigil requirements
- Resurrection costs
- ATM10 resurrection tiers
- Life Forge progression
- Multiblock construction information
Dynamic resurrection rituals are shown as dedicated Limited Lifes processes instead of pretending to be normal crafting-table recipes.
⚙️ In-Game Configuration
Limited Lifes is designed to be configurable without manually editing configuration files.
Server administrators can configure the mod directly in-game.
Settings include:
- Starting lives
- Maximum lives
- Lives lost per death
- Elimination behavior
- Immediate respawn
- Death announcements
- Death sound
- TAB display
- Name display
- Particles
- Life Forge settings
- Multiblock requirements
- Ghost structure previews
- Ritual duration
- Resurrection scaling
- ATM10 progression
The configuration remains server-authoritative in multiplayer.
Difficulty Presets
Limited Lifes supports several progression presets.
Vanilla
Uses only vanilla Minecraft materials.
Designed for worlds that do not use large modpacks.
ATM10
Designed specifically around All the Mods 10 progression.
Resurrection advances through several progression stages:
Allthemodium → Vibranium → Unobtainium → ATM Alloys / Piglich → ATM Star
This prevents resurrection from becoming trivial once players reach late game.
Brutal
For servers where death should be extremely punishing.
Custom
Allows server owners to define their own costs and progression.
ATM10 Progression
The ATM10 preset does not simply multiply the same ingredient forever.
Repeated resurrection moves through actual progression tiers.
Early resurrection may require Allthemodium-tier materials, while repeatedly resurrecting the same player can eventually require:
- Vibranium
- Unobtainium
- Piglich materials
- ATM alloy materials
- ATM Star progression
This keeps death relevant even in heavily modded endgame worlds.
Configuration
Server configuration is automatically created in:
<world>/serverconfig/limited-lifes-server.toml
Manual importing is not required.
The TOML configuration remains available for advanced users and server administrators.
Commands
Main command:
/limitedlifes
Legacy alias:
/lifeline
Administrative and diagnostic commands are available for managing lives, checking resurrection costs, and testing features.
Multiplayer
Limited Lifes is designed for multiplayer servers.
The server remains authoritative over:
- Lives
- Deaths
- Elimination
- Resurrection
- Ritual costs
- Configuration
Install the mod on both the server and clients to ensure that custom assets, interfaces, sounds, and visual effects are available.
Compatibility
Minecraft
1.21.1
Mod Loader
NeoForge
Designed for
- Vanilla-style survival
- Multiplayer servers
- Hardcore-inspired servers
- All the Mods 10
- RPG / progression-focused modpacks
Death should matter.
But it does not always have to be the end.
