Make armor progression in Minecraft more linear
Data Packs were introduced to vanilla Minecraft in version 1.13 and allow the server to modify data about the game, or run commands. Data Packs are compatible with all mod loaders.
Forge is a popular mod loader for versions 1.1+ of Minecraft.
Neoforge is a fork of the Minecraft Forge available for versions 1.20.1+ of Minecraft. Many Forge mods are compatible with Neoforge and vice versa.
Fabric is a mod loader for versions 1.14+ of Minecraft, particularly popular for client side and optimization mods.
Quilt is a fork of the Fabric mod loader. Many Fabric mods are compatible with Quilt and vice versa.

Linear Armor Progression
Do you ever feel like armor in Minecraft is easily skipped? In vanilla, you can jump straight from leather to iron, or even rush diamonds without ever touching chainmail. Whole tiers of armor are often ignored.
This project fixes that by making armor upgrades linear and dependent on each other. To get to the next tier, youโll need the full previous set. That way, players have to work their way up step by step, making each tier feel meaningful instead of disposable.
How It Works
Leather First: All armor progression begins with leather. No more skipping the โstarter tier.โ Youโll need leather armor before moving forward.
Then Copper:Next would be copper
Chainmail Next: Instead of being unobtainable, chainmail now has a proper place in progression. Youโll need it to move on to iron.
Iron: Classic iron armor still plays a central role, but you canโt just jump into it. Youโll need chainmail first.
Gold: After iron, you can choose to go straight to diamond or go to Gold armor. Once you go to gold you can use it to craft diamond.
Diamond: The strongest tier still exists, but it's earned gradually. You wonโt be able to craft diamond armor unless youโve already built your way up through leather โ chainmail โ iron or gold. It can still be upgraded to netherite normally.
Each crafting recipe is carefully adjusted so that you must use the previous armor tier as an ingredient in the next. Every piece you make has value, and you canโt skip ahead.
Why This Matters
Better Balance: Every armor type matters. Even leather finally has a reason to exist outside of being dyed.
Progression is Earned: No more rushing iron or diamond in the first hour. Players will feel the climb through each tier.
Perfect for Servers: This adds fairness and pacing to multiplayer worlds, preventing one player from skipping straight to the end while others are still naked.
RPG-Like Feel: It transforms Minecraft armor progression into a system more like an RPG, where upgrading is part of the adventure.
Compatibility

Intended Experience
This project is made for players who want to slow the game down a bit, appreciate every step of progression, and feel that their gear actually represents the journey theyโve taken. Instead of treating early-game armor as trash, this system turns every piece into a necessary milestone.
If youโre looking for a project that encourages exploration, grinding, and resource management while keeping things balanced, this oneโs for you.
Ready to make armor progression actually feel like a journey instead of a checklist? Install this project and rediscover the value of leather, diamond, and every step in between.
