The year is 2014. It is Summer, so school has been out for a few weeks. Life is good. You load up your favorite modpack, and play for hours. It is late now, and you can hear the bugs chirping outside your open window. All is calm.

or, alternatively:

The year is 2014. It is Summer, so school has been out for a few weeks. Life is good. You open YouTube, and go to your favorite YouTuber who has uploaded a few more parts of their ongoing modded playthrough. You binge the whole series again. It is late now, you can hear the bugs chirping outside your open window. All is calm.

Did this ever happen to you?

What is >lunacy?

>lunacy is a mod inspired by many mods of old, and intends to recreate many ideas seen in these mods in new, yet similar ways.

It is intended to feel akin to that of a modpack, with very interconnected paths, so that not one spot of the mod is used more than the others, and that it will be a benefit to all players in a server for one to progress.

How big is >lunacy?

>lunacy as of this first release is merely a proof-of-concept type mod, although updates are coming, and there is no current "end" in sight.

>lunacy is still actively in heavy development, and therefore almost everything is not only subject to change, but also is only going to grow.

What does >lunacy add?

Currently, most notably, >lunacy adds in a (as of early release) minor magic system, consisting of 4 types of magic, being Mana, Essence, PSI, and Intent, as well as spider ranching, and a handful of new items and weapons to use.

Check the official >lunacy wiki. (heavily unfinished)

These mechanics are going to be fleshed out, and many more are going to be added.

You can also go to the official Discord and @aubreyathame if it's not on the wiki yet

What mods are referenced, and with what?

  • 1) Forestry, Bee farming: spider ranching
    2) Abyssalcraft, Shoggoths, and shoggoth dens(specific name unknown) (in itself from H.P. Lovecraft's work.): Shoggoths, Shoggoth Hives, etc
    3) Various mods, i.e Big Reactors, Nuclearcraft, HBM's Nuclear Tech, etc: Radiation , HEV Suit (in itself from the Half-Life series.)
    4) Ice and Fire Dragons, Rare Items : Rare Items
    5) Various mods, i.e Lycanites Mobs: Seasonal events, i.e mobs dropping special items during a time of the year. Also featured in Terraria, which is another inspiration which happened to just coincide with several mods.
    6) Clay Soldiers(correct me if this link is wrong, it was what the FTB wiki links), and Minecraft Comes Alive (and similar mods): Homunculi (I always wished clay soldiers could do more, and I love the concept of MCA, which led to the highly productive, basically-clay homunculi.)
    7) Minefactory: Reloaded: Pink slime and its meat making properties: (Dubious) Meat
    8) Thaumcraft: Thaumaturgy (no way, right?)

Known issues:

1) There is no JEI support.

This is currently not in my skill set, but is very much so desired for machines.

Addendum

It is heavily encouraged to play this mod with Just Enough Items, as well as Cosmetic Armor.

You are welcome to add >lunacy to released modpacks, (even if I will reiterate it's not that good to in the long run as the mod grows) preferably with credit. The same applies to videos -- while not required, I'd like to receive credit for this, and if you do either, feel free to link it in the comments! It's nice seeing people enjoy my work enough to feature it in something.
