Description
Melon Melon
Melon Melon is a lightweight gameplay mod for Minecraft 1.21.1 NeoForge.
It adds a special soil block called ?Tutu Soil?. Unlike normal farmland, Tutu Soil is not limited to vanilla crops. It allows players to plant configurable items directly and harvest them like crops.
You can plant melon slices, wheat, beetroot, Farmer's Delight rice, Create cogwheels, Create blocks, machine parts, or even unusual items from other mods, depending on your configuration.
Features
?Tutu Soil?
?Tutu Soil? is the core block of this mod.
It behaves like a special type of farmland:
- It can become moist when water is nearby.
- It can hold custom planted items.
- It does not turn into vanilla dirt when trampled.
- When trampled, it only dries back to its unmoistened state.
- Placing blocks above it will not destroy or convert it into dirt.
- Its growth, moisture, trampling, and interaction behavior can be configured.
Plant Almost Anything
Melon Melon is not limited to normal crop seeds.
If allowed by the config, many kinds of items can be planted on Tutu Soil, including:
- Vanilla crops and food items;
- Melon slices, wheat, beetroot, carrots, and potatoes;
- Farmer's Delight rice and other crop seeds;
- Create cogwheels, large cogwheels, water wheels, and blocks;
- Blocks, machines, parts, materials, or unusual items from other mods.
This makes the mod useful for both normal survival gameplay and highly customized modpacks.
Dynamic Plant Rendering
Planted items visually grow over time.
Different item types are rendered in different ways:
- Normal items are shown as upright item sprites.
- Crop seeds are still shown as item sprites on Tutu Soil, instead of becoming real crop blocks.
- Simple block items can be shown as block models.
- Complex blocks or blocks with block entities can fall back to item rendering for better compatibility.
This means you can watch a tiny melon slice, rice grain, cogwheel, machine, or strange item slowly grow out of the soil.
Seed-Retaining Harvest
When a planted item becomes mature, you can right-click it to harvest.
Right-click harvesting:
- Drops 1 to 4 output items;
- Uses weighted chances, so larger drops are rarer;
- Has a default 2% chance to drop 4 items;
- Keeps one planted item on the Tutu Soil;
- Resets the plant growth back to zero;
- Allows the plant to grow again without replanting.
If you want to fully remove the plant, left-click it instead.
?Feifei?
The mod also adds a special growth booster item called ?Feifei?.
?Feifei? can be used on plants growing on Tutu Soil:
- Right-click an immature plant to increase its growth.
- Right-click a mature plant to harvest it directly.
- Harvesting with ?Feifei? does not consume ?Feifei?.
- Using it on empty Tutu Soil will not waste the item.
- Its behavior and growth amount can be configured.
Crafting Recipes
?Tutu Soil?
?Tutu Soil? has a mid-game crafting recipe.
The recipe uses:
- Diamonds;
- Fern;
- Gilded Blackstone;
- Netherrack;
- Dirt.
The default recipe outputs 4 ?Tutu Soil? and costs 4 diamonds, meaning each Tutu Soil effectively costs one diamond.
?Feifei?
?Feifei? is crafted using:
- Sculk;
- Bone Meal;
- Moss Blocks.
The default recipe outputs 16 ?Feifei?.
Configurable Whitelist and Stage System
Melon Melon includes a configurable planting whitelist.
You can control:
- Whether the whitelist is enabled;
- Which items can be planted;
- Which stages unlock which plantable items;
- Whether stages are unlocked by default;
- Whether stages are unlocked through commands, advancements, KubeJS, FTB Quests, or other systems;
- Growth speed;
- Water requirements;
- Harvest drop chances;
- Rendering modes;
- Planting and block placement priority.
The config file includes bilingual Chinese-English comments to make customization easier for both Chinese and English users.
Namespace Wildcard Support
The whitelist supports simple namespace wildcards.
For example:
items = [
"minecraft:wheat",
"minecraft:melon_slice",
"create:*"
]
create:* allows items from the Create namespace to be planted.
This is especially useful for modpack authors who want to make entire groups of modded items plantable without listing every single item manually.
Designed for Modpacks
Melon Melon is designed with modpack customization in mind.
It can be used as:
- A special resource generation mechanic;
- A staged progression system;
- A strange farming system for technology mods;
- A Create-themed automation mechanic;
- A KubeJS or FTB Quests reward system;
- A core mechanic for skyblock, tech, magic, survival, or meme-style packs.
If you want a system where players can literally grow machines, gears, materials, or strange modded items, this mod is built for that.
Compatibility Notes
Melon Melon is built for:
- Minecraft 1.21.1
- NeoForge
The mod has been designed with compatibility in mind for:
- Vanilla items and blocks;
- Farmer's Delight crop seeds;
- Create blocks and components;
- Blocks with block entities;
- Complex modded item and block models;
- KubeJS and FTB Quests style modpack workflows.
Some complex modded blocks may not render as full block models. In those cases, the mod will try to fall back to item rendering to avoid crashes or broken visuals.
