Description

Memory Leak: The Double

Every time you save, something is created alongside you — a backup of yourself, layered into the world files. At first it's harmless. It wanders. It talks. It might even ask to be your friend.

It's learning, though. It knows what time it is on your real clock. It knows how long you've been playing. It knows your name — even when it's using a different one.

Left alone long enough, it stops copying you and starts becoming you. And it wants this world for itself.

Features

  • A "double" of yourself that appears and disappears over time, with a username almost identical to yours
  • Chat interactions — it talks on its own, and responds to what you type
  • Real files written to your computer (in Documents/MemoryLeak/) as the story unfolds
  • A hidden floating structure with a collectible clue
  • Anger, theft, and blindness if you break what it builds
  • It occasionally asks you for something — comply, or face the consequences
  • A scripted final sequence with a real countdown, screen distortion, and a jumpscare
  • Gradual world corruption as the leak spreads
  • Full English/Italian chat localization (auto-detected from your client)
  • Adjustable difficulty via /thedouble difficulty <easy|normal|hard>

⚠️ Important — please read

This mod intentionally writes real text files to your computer, in Documents/MemoryLeak/ — never anywhere else, never your Desktop, never system folders. This is a deliberate part of the horror experience, not a virus or malicious behavior. Your antivirus may flag this behavior as suspicious; it is safe.

The mod also renames your world's display name (shown in the world selection list) after the story's ending — this only happens once the story fully concludes, and only affects the name shown in your world list.

Recommended for singleplayer. Not extensively tested in multiplayer.
