Description
Metalborn a Minecraft mod implementing my own take on Feruchemy from Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn series. Feruchemy is the art of storing power in metals. While storing, you are temporarily weaker, but you can later draw out that power to increase your power by the same amount.
When you install the mod, each player will start as a random ferring granting you access to a single power you can store in the appropriate metal type. There are mechanics in the mod allowing you to change your power through loot, share your power with other players, or even steal additional powers from monsters. A single ore is added, tin, which can be used to alongside iron, gold, and copper to create various metals needed in the mod through the metal forge. To get started in the mod, combine a tin ingot with a book to get the mod's guidebook (also available online). It is also recommended to install JEI to view recipes for the mod.
This mod aims to integrate the mechanics of Feruchemy with Modded Minecraft. As a result, some of the powers, metals, and alloys have been adapted to better fit with metals commonly found in mods. In addition, while it features a take on Hemalurgy, that is ultimately focused on improving the gameplay of Feruchemy. At this time I am not planning to introduce aspects of the third magic from Mistborn; Allomancy, as I feel its too similar to systems I have already written as part of Tinkers' Construct.
Full list of metal powers in the mod:
- Iron: stores weight - knockback and gravity.
- Steel: stores speed - movement speed, attack speed, and mining speed.
- Tin: stores sight - night vision and blindness.
- Pewter: stores strength - attack damage and max health.
- Copper: stores experience - fills or drains XP over time.
- Bronze: stores reach - block and entity reach.
- Gold: stores health - healing or damaging you over time.
- Rose Gold: stores energy - filling or draining the hunger bar.
- Nicrosil: stores investiture - grants or revokes a Feruchemy power.
In addition, based on the metals in your modpack, additional powers will be available:
- Silver: stores luck - increases or decreases loot from entities
- Electrum: stores determination - affects damage taken.
- Zinc/Nickel: stores stealth - changes the range at which monsters notice you.
- Brass/Constantan: stores warmth - applies or clears freezing and burning, and grants bonus fire damage.
For zinc/nickel and brass/constantan, if both metals that provide that power are present, zinc or brass is preferred (so nickel/constantan may have no power depending on your pack). Some additional metals may be added in the future; there is space in the design for 3 additional powers.
