Description

MHC: Beyond — Your world. Your quirk rules.

Your world. Your quirk rules.

MHC: Beyond gives server owners control over how My Hero Craft fits into their world: who is born with a quirk, how rare powers are, how often heroes and villains appear, and how reputation develops.

Build a dedicated hero world or let quirks be one part of a larger modpack. This is an unofficial companion mod for My Hero Craft, installed alongside the original mod.

Minecraft 1.20.1 · Forge · Install on both clients and server

Not everyone is born with a quirk

  • Replace the first-join selection card with a configurable random birth roll. The default chance is 80%.
  • Set blacklists and weighted rarity, or make every new player begin quirkless.
  • Optionally reserve primary quirk families across players, including offline owners, for random assignment and admin grants.
  • Keep each player's result through reconnects and restarts. Existing players are preserved by default.

Birth rules do not interfere with native AFO stealing/giving, OFA inheritance or explicit administrator grants. A quirkless birth is a starting condition, not a permanent ban on gaining a power.

Give All For One more room to grow

Collect through MHC's normal give/steal action, with configurable steal timing and no appraisal requirement. A passive readout shows your target's primary quirk beside the crosshair; a depleted NPC simply shows Quirkless.

  • Browse your actual native collection with /afo menu. Choose borrowed modes or gifts, bookmark favorites and save loadouts.
  • Bind supported native moves in the Arsenal and select implemented movement/defense passives in Powers.
  • Combine collected prerequisites into Seeking Blast, Gravity Crush, Chain Storm, Repulsor Burst and Binding Surge.
  • Use Unleashed, collection bonuses and an optional favorite wheel. Ownership, costs, cooldowns and relevant form/Erasure restrictions remain enforced.
  • Enable NPC lieutenants for recruitment and follow, guard, focus, defend and retreat orders.

The addon uses MHC's existing quirk collection. It does not introduce another stock inventory, and borrowed moves still depend on supported native behavior and level/resource requirements.

A world for heroes and villains

Regular heroes join the population with a villager-style appearance and stats comparable to ordinary villains. Configurable spawn-attempt multipliers and loaded-population caps help reduce crowding and make Pro Heroes less common without deleting existing NPCs.

Hero reputation, villain notoriety, factions and seasonal/lifetime rankings are separate from combat XP and level progression. Optional faction encounters, missions and player faction choice let you decide how much structure your server uses.

An optional wanted system adds temporary heat and responses from existing nearby heroes. It does not generate extra response mobs. Native NPC spawn-time quirks and MHC's Hero/Villain switches remain respected.

Tools for server owners

  • One For All inheritance: offer the power to another player; accepting transfers it and removes it from the donor.
  • History and recovery: inspect ownership and recorded AFO transfers; recover eligible operations with state checks.
  • Admin grants: give a random available quirk, or use /afo grant to add collected stock while keeping primary AFO.
  • Balance and terrain rules: configure supported damage/cooldown scaling and opt into protection against audited MHC terrain damage.
  • Optional claims: use local safe areas or the optional FTB Chunks adapter for supported quirk actions. FTB is not required.
  • Presets and diagnostics: start with Modpack Light, Balanced or Hero World settings, then tune them for your pack.

Lieutenants, faction encounters, player faction choice, wanted responses and terrain protection are opt-in. All fourteen addon keybinds start unbound to avoid conflicts.

Installation

  1. Back up the complete world and stop the server.
  2. Install My Hero Craft 29.0.1, GeckoLib 4 and Player Animator for Forge 1.20.1.
  3. Add MHC: Beyond 1.0.0 to both the server and every client's mods folder. Keep only one addon version installed.
  4. Configure config/mhc-server-control.toml on the server and restart. Bind optional controls in Minecraft's Controls menu.

Previously developed as MHC Server Control. The internal mod ID and mhc-server-control config filenames stay unchanged for existing worlds. Replace the old addon JAR; do not install both names together.

Good to know

Is this server-only? No. Both clients and server need the same addon version for its entities, menus and networking.

Will reconnecting reroll my quirk? No. Birth rolls are persistent. Administrators have explicit commands for controlled reassignment.

Does uniqueness block AFO? No. Native AFO transfers are exempt, including powers obtained from NPCs; this is not a global ban on every duplicate power.

Does it protect against every modded attack? No. Terrain and claim integration cover documented, audited paths. Test your pack's specific abilities, hazards and claim settings.

Can I use it in a modpack? Yes, the addon is MIT-licensed. Obtain MHC and other dependencies from their own project pages. Back up before upgrading or removing the addon; removing it can remove saved regular-hero entities.

Automated regression tests and dedicated-server restart checks passed, and the owner reports successful personal playtesting. This does not certify every original ability or multiplayer/modpack combination. The upstream Dabi advancement warning remains; an earlier intermittent NPC theft test failure did not reproduce in expanded checks and remains a monitoring item.
