Somewhere far out at sea stands Minecatraz, the toughest prison ever built. Or it was.

The worst-behaved players in the land were shipped off to this rock and locked away for good. Then one day somebody got careless with a stack of TNT. The blast ripped the cell blocks open, the prisoners poured out, and the guards never stood a chance.

Now the inmates run the island, and they don't want visitors.

Find the island, fight your way through the cell house, take down the Kingpin and win Minecatraz back.

🏝️ A Huge Prison Island

Minecatraz is a massive Alcatraz-style island of about 232 × 124 blocks, built from scratch in every world. It's rare and only appears in the open ocean, so finding it is an adventure in itself.

Explore an entire prison complex:

• The Cell House: hundreds of cells across several tiers, plus isolation cells and storage cells
• Dining Hall & Kitchen: left in a terrible mess after the breakout
• Hospital
• Administration Block: offices and the Warden's own office
• Lighthouse, Water Tower and Guard Towers
• Building 64 and the New Industries Building
• Power House, with its tall chimney
• Basement, with dark dungeon cells
• Exercise Yard, with an arena at its heart
• The Dock, with a wrecked ferry
• Prisoner camps and some totally wrecked toilets

Every room is packed with detail, and there are chests and barrels everywhere to loot.

👊 The Inmates

Escaped Prisoners

Big, tough and angry. Escaped Prisoners wear orange jumpsuits and have 10 to 20 hearts each. Many of them carry a Baseball Bat or a Thick Iron Bar, so watch your back!

Rogue Guards

Some prisoners have pulled on torn guard uniforms, but don't be fooled. They're just as dangerous.

Locked-up Prisoners

Not everyone joined the riot. Look out for locked cells with a calm, peaceful prisoner still waiting inside.

💀 The Kingpin (Boss)

Waiting in the yard arena is the leader of the breakout. The Kingpin is twice the size of a player, with an orange jumpsuit tied at the waist and a huge muscular torso. He has 200 health, hits extremely hard, shrugs off knockback and has a ground slam that sends everything around him flying.

Beat him and you'll earn a mountain of experience and some very nice loot.

The inmates grunt when they're hit, groan when they go down and laugh evilly if they're the one who finishes you off.

⚰️ The Fallen Guards

The guards who once ran Minecatraz are still here… sort of. You'll find them slumped against walls, lying on floors and hanging from the ceilings.

• Right-click a fallen guard to search his pockets
• Hit him and his pockets spill out onto the ground, along with some experience

Keep an eye out for little keepsakes the guards carried with them. They don't do anything. They're just reminders of the people who worked here.

⚔️ Weapons & Loot

Take the prisoners' weapons for yourself, although you don't always get one:

The island is full of loot, with different rewards in the cells, library, offices, kitchen, guard rooms, armoury, hospital, industrial buildings, prisoners' hidden stashes and the Warden's office. Hunt down the contraband and you might find diamonds, golden apples, enchanted books and even a Totem of Undying.

Keep an eye out for Cell Keys (tripwire hooks) hidden among the loot. There's an advancement for finding one!

📊 Retake the Island

When you set foot on the island, a counter appears on the left of your screen, showing how many Rogue Guards and Escaped Prisoners are still alive.

• A fanfare plays when you wipe out either group
• When only 10 or fewer are left, they glow through walls so nobody can hide from you
• Defeat every inmate and the Kingpin to save Minecatraz, get the bodies cleared out, and open it up for Tourists!

The player who makes the final kill receives 64 diamonds and the island's story gets a proper ending. We won't spoil it. Just watch the newspapers… 📰

🧭 Finding the Island

Minecatraz is rare and only generates in open ocean biomes (not frozen oceans). Grab a boat and start sailing, or, if you're in a hurry, use:

/locate structure minecatraz:island

ℹ️ Good to Know

• Minecatraz needs a new world or an unexplored stretch of ocean to generate.
• The prisoners are monsters, so they disappear on Peaceful. Play on Easy or harder for the full experience.
• Works in single player and multiplayer. Install on both client and server.
