MoreTransport: Jetski
Three jet skis - green, red and navy. They don't handle the same.
How you get one
You don't craft them. They come out of the water, which is where they belong.
Dig up a buried treasure and there's about one chance in four there's a jet ski
in it, and half the time a jerrycan or two in the same chest - so a machine you
dig up comes with something to put in it. Same odds roughly in the treasure
chest of a shipwreck.
If you just need fuel, jerrycans turn up on their own in shipwreck supply
chests and in underwater ruins, about a third of the time.
Which one to take
The green is the quickest in a straight line. If you're crossing an ocean, take
that one.
The navy is a hair slower but it leans hardest of the three and turns tightest.
It also sits highest out of the water. It's the one to take if you're weaving
between islands rather than going somewhere.
The red is the slowest and the widest, and it's the most planted of the three.
It's the one that doesn't get away from you.
Nothing dramatic between them - about a tenth of a knot, so to speak - but you
feel it after a minute.
Riding it
Right-click to get on, steer with your head.
Crouch + right-click opens the dashboard - from the water beside it, or sitting
on it. That's your ignition, and a slot for a jerrycan or a lava bucket. One
jerrycan fills the tank, and they stack, so take a spare.
The thing that takes getting used to: it doesn't swim, it glides. Let go of the
throttle and you keep going for a good while, because a jet ski has no brakes.
I built it that way on purpose and then didn't want it any other way.
It sits on the water properly instead of bobbing in it. Send it off a wave and
it drops back onto its waterline. Sink it and it climbs back up.
Beach it and you're not stuck. Out of the water the turbine has nothing to push
against, so you keep about a tenth of your power - slow, but enough to crawl
off the sand instead of smashing the thing to get it back.
It throws a plume of water out behind you, but only when you're actually moving
and actually in the water.
The green is the fastest of the three, flat out. The navy is just behind it.
The red is the slowest, and the widest with it - it's the one that stays put
under you.
The spread is about a tenth between fastest and slowest, so it's not night and
day, but you feel it over a long crossing. The navy takes it back on the
corners: it leans harder than the other two and turns inside them.
All three sit around half again as fast as sprinting, and unlike sprinting they
keep it up all day without eating.
They don't sound alike either - each one has its own engine. The revs follow
the throttle, so you can hear what you're doing without looking down.
NeoForge 1.21.1. Doesn't need anything else. English and French.
