About

Description

I don’t really know how to explain it.

There was this tree, a birch, standing a little way off from my base. I didn’t think much of it.

I went to sleep. When I woke up, it seemed closer.

I figured I was misremembering.

I wasn’t.

I started counting my steps to it every morning, and the number kept getting smaller.

I cut it down once. The next day it was back, in the same spot, like I’d never touched it.

I stopped sleeping for a while. It only made the days feel longer.

Near the end, the sky changed color.

After that, I don’t remember much. Only that it was quiet.

Please don’t plant anything near your bed.
