Description

Murder Mystery

Bring a Murder Mystery experience into your Minecraft Singleplayer world!

How Does It Work?

When you enter your world, you can receive the Suspect Book (Creative).

The book lets you track every living villager and mark them as:

  • Innocent
  • Suspect
  • Unknown (default)

As the investigation progresses, you can:

  • Question villagers
  • Ask for their thoughts on the killer
  • Frame villagers
  • Check their pockets
  • Track suspicious behavior
  • Identify potential murderers

New in 4.0: Sneak + right-click a villager with the Suspect Book to jump straight to their page, and use the new search bar at the top of the book to quickly find a villager by name.

Trust System (New in 4.0)

The villagers' trust in you isn't just flavor text anymore - it actively shapes how helpful they are.

  • Trading with villagers and eliminating a Killer raises Trust.
  • Wrongly framing an innocent villager, killing an innocent, or letting the Killer murder someone lowers Trust.
  • The higher your Trust, the better the tips you get when asking "Who might be the Killer?":
    • No Trust: villagers won't tell you anything (and won't be polite about it).
    • Low Trust: vague, mostly useless answers.
    • Good Trust: villagers point you toward a specific name.
    • High Trust: villagers reveal the Killer's profession.

Kill 3 innocent villagers and it's game over for you - your inventory is emptied and you're hauled off to prison, with the villagers making it very clear who they now suspect. You'll get a warning the first two times before that happens.

Suspicion System - Villagers react to your actions

  • Staring at villagers increases their suspicion level.
  • Suspicious villagers become uncomfortable and may start sweating when questioned.
  • Innocent villagers with high suspicion will start to panic and flee from you (New in 4.0).
  • Correctly framing the real Killer while they're already visibly nervous fully reveals them - they'll stop pretending and start hunting you down without mercy (New in 4.0).

The higher the Killer's suspicion level:

  • The more nervous they become.
  • They avoid eye contact - and won't even attempt a murder while you're looking straight at them (New in 4.0).
  • They keep their distance and try to avoid you entirely instead of just walking away (improved in 4.0).
  • They behave increasingly suspiciously, and answer questions noticeably differently once they get nervous enough - below that point, they blend in and answer just like any innocent villager (New in 4.0).

If the Killer remains trusted or marked as Innocent, they will continue killing more villagers - though the more suspicious they get, the more careful (and rarer) their kills become (reworked in 4.0).

Multiple Killers

You can play with multiple killers.

  • Killers do not attack each other.
  • Up to 5 killers can exist in a single round!

Quality of Life (New in 4.0)

  • Villagers now spawn with proper professions instead of all being jobless, for a more immersive village.
  • The hunger bar is removed entirely - focus on the investigation, not your food supply.
  • Checking a villager's pockets now only works once per villager, and gives a random amount of items.
  • Loads more villager dialogue and answer variety across every question.

Win & Lose Conditions

Win Find and eliminate the Killer(s).

Lose

  • All innocent Villagers are killed, or
  • You kill 3 innocent villagers yourself and get sent to prison.
