Description

NameHider is a lightweight, client-side Fabric mod that lets you change your own displayed Minecraft name locally.
Your real username, UUID, GameProfile, authentication, chat messages, commands, and network traffic remain completely unchanged.
Other players and servers will always see your real Minecraft username.

INSTALLATION
1. Install Fabric Loader for your Minecraft version: Fabric Loader
2. Install Fabric API for the same version: Fabric API
3. Download the matching NameHider version.
4. Place the JAR in your .minecraft/mods folder.
5. Launch Minecraft using Fabric.
No server-side installation is required.

COMMANDS/hidename <name>
Changes your locally displayed name.
Example:/hidename Steve
Allowed characters: A-Z, a-z, 0-9, _
Length: 1–16 characters/undoname
Restores your real Minecraft name locally.
Example:
/undoname
Both commands are handled entirely on your client and are never sent to the server.

SKINS & CAPES
If the selected name belongs to an existing Minecraft: Java Edition account, NameHider uses that account's current skin and cape locally.
Example:/hidename sTeVe
If the account exists, the official capitalization is applied automatically:Steve
If the account does not exist, your entered capitalization is kept and your original skin and cape remain active.
PRIVACY
NameHider does not modify or send:
- Your real Minecraft username
- UUID
- GameProfile
- Authentication data
- Chat messages
- Commands
- Packets or network traffic
- Server-side data
Your selected name is stored locally at:
.minecraft/config/namehider.json
Nothing from this configuration is sent to a server.
FAQ
Can other players see my hidden name?
No. NameHider only changes what you see locally. Other players continue to see your real username.
Does it work on multiplayer servers?
Yes. NameHider is completely client-side and requires no server installation.
Does it work in singleplayer?
Yes. It works in singleplayer, LAN, and multiplayer.
Does it rename my Minecraft account?
No. Your account name, UUID, and authentication remain unchanged.
Can I use another player's skin?
Yes, locally. If the selected name belongs to an existing Java Edition account, its current skin and cape can be displayed on your client.
Why isn't every occurrence of a name replaced?
Minecraft servers can send arbitrary formatted text through chat, scoreboards, plugins, and custom GUIs.
NameHider only changes safe local display locations where your own player can be reliably identified. This prevents unrelated text or other players' names from being accidentally changed.

NameHider is purely visual. It does not modify your Minecraft account, UUID, GameProfile, authentication, chat messages, commands, or network traffic.
Other players and servers will always see your real Minecraft username.

📦 Installation
- Install Fabric Loader for your Minecraft version.
- Install Fabric API for the same version.
- Download the matching NameHider JAR.
- Place the JAR files into your Minecraft
modsfolder. - Launch Minecraft using the Fabric profile.
NameHider is client-side only. Servers do not need to install it.

🎨 Skins & Capes
If the selected name belongs to an existing Minecraft: Java Edition account, NameHider fetches that account's currently equipped skin and cape for your local client.
For example:
/hidename sTeVe
If Mojang finds the account, NameHider automatically applies the official capitalization:
Steve
If the account does not exist:
- Your entered capitalization is kept.
- Your original skin remains active.
- Your original cape remains active.

- UUID
