Description
Narra — The Sorrow of the Void | Java Port
Summon a warrior from the void. Survive her wrath. Help her find a place beside you.
Narra brings an animated boss encounter and a companion system to Minecraft Java Edition. Defeat her, mend her broken heart, and recruit her as a companion who can fight, travel, fish, cook, and rest alongside you.
Choose between the standard summoning ritual and a more dangerous crimson encounter. Once recruited, customize her appearance and manage her equipment, inventory, and behavior through a dedicated companion menu.
Authorized Java Port
This Java Edition port was created with permission from Rine_Workshop, the creator of the original Bedrock addon.

The Java version adapts Narra for Java Edition and adds companion features, custom encounters, and gameplay adjustments. Features and balancing may differ from the Bedrock addon.
A Warrior Lost in the Void
Narra’s story begins in the void: isolation, sorrow, and a life spent as a weapon.
Bringing her into your world begins with a battle. Earning her loyalty means helping her recover afterward. Once her cold heart is mended, she can become part of your adventures—and the quieter moments between them.
Boss Encounters
Standard Narra
Craft and use the Void Tome Recall to begin Narra’s arrival sequence.
Her summoning includes portal effects, a dramatic descent, and an impact site. Void creatures can appear during the ritual, so prepare before opening the tome.
In battle, Narra uses:
-
Sword strikes, sweeping attacks, and combinations.
-
Fast movement and dash attacks.
-
Area slashes with brief protection during the attack.
-
Black Allay clones that pressure and distract targets.
-
Defensive abilities when her health drops below 50%.
When her health falls below half, Narra gains Resistance I and Strength I for 120 seconds. While her health remains below half, she also receives an additional 40% damage reduction against ordinary damage.
Crimson / Unchained Narra
Upgrade the standard tome into the Crimson Tome to summon a more dangerous encounter.
This version features a separate appearance and a darker arrival sequence, including red ritual effects, nighttime, and stormy weather.
Her additional abilities include:
-
Special crimson attacks.
-
Rapid dash sequences.
-
Teleportation behind the player, accompanied by an audible warning.
-
Additional void reinforcements.
-
Dedicated boss music and unsettling laughter.
Below 50% health, Crimson Narra enters a frenzy. Her laughter overlaps while she continues attacking, her dash pressure increases, and lightning effects strike around the battlefield for several seconds.
Crimson Narra can also be defeated and recruited through the heart-mending process described below.
Choose your summoning location carefully: the ritual can alter nearby terrain, and the crimson arrival changes the time and weather.
Crafting Recipes
All shaped recipes below use a 3×3 crafting table.
Void Tome Recall — Standard Summoning
Materials:
-
4 × Obsidian
-
1 × Totem of Undying
-
2 × Echo Shard
-
1 × Book
-
1 × Recovery Compass
Placement:
| Obsidian | Totem of Undying | Obsidian |
|---|---|---|
| Echo Shard | Book | Echo Shard |
| Obsidian | Recovery Compass | Obsidian |
Result: 1 × Void Tome Recall
Use the tome while standing near clear space with solid ground ahead of you. A successful survival-mode summoning consumes the tome.
Crimson Tome — Unchained Summoning
Materials:
-
1 × Void Tome Recall
-
4 × Red Nether Bricks
-
1 × Nether Star
-
2 × Nether Wart Block
-
1 × Netherite Upgrade Smithing Template
Placement:
| Red Nether Bricks | Nether Star | Red Nether Bricks |
|---|---|---|
| Nether Wart Block | Void Tome Recall | Nether Wart Block |
| Red Nether Bricks | Netherite Upgrade Smithing Template | Red Nether Bricks |
Result: 1 × Crimson summoning item
This recipe upgrades the normal tome into the item used for the Crimson / Unchained encounter.
In the current version, this book-shaped item may appear in item lists as “Unchained Narra Spawn Egg.” It is the red summoning item described here.
Narra’s Cold Heart — Recruitment and Revival
Materials:
-
1 × Heart of the Sea
-
4 × Snowball
Placement:
| Empty | Snowball | Empty |
|---|---|---|
| Snowball | Heart of the Sea | Snowball |
| Empty | Snowball | Empty |
Result: 1 × Narra Cold Heart
Use this item to mend a defeated boss Narra’s heart. It can also revive your recruited Narra if she becomes downed.
Narra Charm — Carry Your Companion
Materials:
-
1 × Narra Cold Heart
-
2 × Echo Shard
-
2 × Ender Pearl
Placement:
| Empty | Echo Shard | Empty |
|---|---|---|
| Ender Pearl | Narra Cold Heart | Ender Pearl |
| Empty | Echo Shard | Empty |
Result: 1 × Empty Narra Charm
Use the empty charm on your own recruited Narra outside combat to store her. The filled charm preserves her saved companion data, including her inventory, and lets her owner release her again.
The charm stores an existing companion; it does not create a second Narra.
Narra’s Journal
Materials:
-
1 × Book
-
1 × Ender Pearl
This recipe is shapeless: place both materials anywhere in the crafting grid.
Result: 1 × Narra’s Journal
The journal unlocks chapters as you progress through your encounters and recruitment.
How to Defeat and Recruit Narra
-
Prepare a Cold Heart and some Bread. Bring them before starting the battle.
-
Summon Narra. Use the standard tome or the crimson summoning item.
-
Defeat her in combat. When defeated, she enters a kneeling state.
-
Use Narra’s Cold Heart on her. This mends her heart and advances the recruitment process.
-
Give her Bread. She becomes your companion.
Bread alone cannot recruit the undefeated boss. You must defeat her and mend her heart first.
After recruitment, Narra switches to her companion state. The crimson boss frenzy is part of the hostile encounter, rather than her everyday companion behavior.
Companion Features
Menu and Customization
Sneak + right-click your recruited Narra to open her companion menu.
From there, you can access her inventory, equipment, behavior settings, and appearance options.
-
A 27-slot backpack.
-
Equipment management.
-
Follow, sit, guard, and other behavior controls.
-
Combat behavior settings.
-
A separate skin selection screen with previews.
-
20 selectable Narra skins, including her original appearance.
-
Appearance options for her companion Allay.
With an empty hand, ordinary right-click provides a quick follow/sit control when no other interaction takes priority.
Combat and Equipment
Narra can fight alongside you and use equipment from her inventory.
Her equipment system can select better available weapons and armor. Eligible nearby dropped upgrades can also be collected and equipped.
Food and Potions
Put supplies in Narra’s inventory to help her look after herself.
She can eat available food and use helpful potions when the situation calls for them, including:
-
Healing when injured.
-
Fire Resistance when exposed to fire or lava.
-
Water Breathing when struggling underwater.
-
Other useful effects when appropriate.
Her food and potion use includes consumption animations. You can also give her food or a helpful potion directly.
Camping and Daily Life
Narra has activities beyond combat:
-
Carrying a torch in dark surroundings.
-
Cooking suitable raw food at nearby campfires.
-
Resting and interacting with beds.
-
Becoming tired after extended periods without sleep.
-
Reacting to nearby playing music discs.
-
Playing different idle and rest animations.
Some activities depend on nearby blocks, supplies, behavior settings, and whether she is currently fighting or travelling.
Fishing Together
Give Narra a Fishing Rod and fish nearby.
She can join your fishing activity with her own rod, catch fish, and play a pulling animation when retrieving a catch.
Travelling by Boat
Narra can approach and join a boat you are using when a passenger seat is available, including while she is in the water.
Her boat pose is designed to place her close behind you.
Elytra Travel
Provide Narra with an Elytra and Firework Rockets so she can accompany you when you fly.
Her flight follows your flight activity, and she uses rockets from her supplies for boosts. Keep her equipped and stocked before a long journey.
Reviving Your Companion
A recruited Narra can become downed instead of disappearing immediately after a fatal defeat.
Use either of the following on her to revive her:
-
Narra Cold Heart
-
Totem of Undying
Revival restores part of her health. Food and suitable potions can help her recover further.
