Nerfed Bone Meal

Nerfed Bone Meal

Disables Bone Meal's ability to grow crops and trees and, well, everything. It didn't just get nerfed, it got gutted.

About

Description

This mod disables Bone Meal's ability to grow plants when you right click on them.

If you want players to have to plant and tend to their crops instead of instantly growing everything, then this mods for you.

This prevents dispensers from being used to bonemeal plants, as well as growing plants underwater.

There is a config that adds an allow list and deny list. By default all blocks are blocked from being bonemealed. If you add a block to the allow list, say "minecraft:oak_sapling", that can now have bonemeal used on it, both by players and dispensers.

If you add a value to the deny list the logic is flipped. Now all blocks will allow bonemeal use on them EXCEPT the ones in the deny list. If the deny list has any values then the allow list is completely ignored.

Optional: Skill-gated bone meal (Pufferfish's Skills)

Nerfed Bone Meal optionally integrates with Pufferfish's Skills. When that mod is installed, you can require players to unlock a skill before bone meal works for them — and grant a higher-tier skill that lets them ignore all the block rules.

Pufferfish's Skills is fully optional. If it isn't installed, these settings are simply ignored and the mod works exactly as described above.

required_skills

If non-empty, a player must have at least one of these skills unlocked to use bone meal at all. They're still subject to the allowlist / denylist afterward.

required_skills = ["mypack:gardening#bone_meal_master"]

bypass_skills

A player with any of these skills unlocked may use bone meal on any block — the allowlist, denylist, and required_skills are all ignored for them. This is the "you've mastered this, do whatever you want" tier.

bypass_skills = ["mypack:gardening#master_gardener"]

Skill reference format

Both skill lists use the format:

"<category_id>#<skill_id>"
  • <category_id> — the Puffish skill category's full ResourceLocation (from your pack's puffish_skills/config.json).
  • <skill_id> — the skill's id within that category (the key from skills.json).

Multiple entries in either list are any-of: having any one of the listed skills is enough.
