Description

Update 3/18/2025: When we uploaded this mod to CurseForge in Feburary of 2024, it was mostly intended to share the file quickly among close friends. We certainly never expected this level of attention—with this platform, we'd like to emphasize that while this mod isn't serious, dementia and schizophrenia are. Therefore, all revenue generated by this mod will be donated to one of the largest nonprofit organizations dedicated to dementia research in America, Alzheimer's Association.

Neurocraft: Visions & Voices is an ongoing project that attempts to simulate the disastrous effects of schizophrenia and dementia on a Minecraft player. Inspired by projects like Everywhere At The End Of Time and various internet memes, Neurocraft blurs reality. Will you beat the game before your symptoms get out of control, or will you break and lose that chance completely?

For best player experience, Neurocraft is intended to be played start-to-finish in a hardcore world without knowing any features beforehand.

Embark on a solo adventure, or invite your friends and lose your sanity together!

Enjoy the chaos.
- Dementia Team

Note: If you'd like to play on 1.20.1, please select the Files tab and check "Show alpha files" to view.

Current Features (SPOILERS!):

Sanity:

  • Your sanity meter measures the onset of your symptoms.
  • Your sanity starts out high, and exponentially decreases over time
  • All mod features get more intense with time.

Hallucinations:

  • Placing blocks may not actually place blocks
  • Faux enemies may appear behind the player or spawn in naturally
  • You may start to hear things that aren't really there...
  • Entire ore veins might not actually exist
  • You might start to forget how to break blocks.

Player Experience Changes:

  • Player FOV, brightness, render distance, and framerate may suddenly change upon worsening of symptoms
  • Controls may randomly swap
  • Health bars and food bars begin to become unreliable
  • Epilepsy Warning: If sanity decreases too fast, player has a chance of entering psychosis, which features flashing lights and loud music.

Super Customizable:

  • Can customize and configure all mod features for both client and server (just go to mods > Neurocraft > config or click the top right button in the pause menu)

...And more!
