Description

Overview

Nudge is a server-side performance mod that cuts vanilla entity collision overhead for all entities, vanilla and modded alike, by registering them into a position-keyed spatial grid so collision and area queries read straight from it, and by running push handling and idle-entity physics on a staggered interval — behaviour stays vanilla, and the gain grows with entity count and crowding.

Benchmark

Environment: Intel Xeon E3-1270 v5, NeoForge 1.21.1, maxEntityCramming disabled, 2,000 pigs, server tick time (MSPT).

  • 2,000 pigs spread across one chunk — Vanilla: 320 ms/tick (150 µs per entity); Nudge: 65 ms/tick (25 µs per entity); about 4.9× faster.
  • 2,000 pigs stacked in a single block — Vanilla: 2,000 ms/tick (800 µs per entity); Nudge: 180 ms/tick (90 µs per entity); about 11× faster.
