Numen-Re — LLM AI Companions for Forge 1.20.1
Numen-Re adds persistent, LLM-powered companions to Minecraft Forge 1.20.1. Summon named companions, give each one an AI configuration, and use natural language to direct multi-step in-game work.
This release is a complete standalone JAR. The numen_api compatibility layer is bundled, so no separate API mod is required.
What companions can do
- Travel, follow coordinates and navigate around obstacles.
- Inspect blocks, entities, inventories, containers and recipes.
- Mine, collect, craft, smelt, equip, eat, place and break blocks.
- Fight mobs, shoot targets and manage equipment.
- Plan and build saved blueprints.
- Store long-term memories, manage autonomous work and recover durable tasks after restart.
- Maintain separate model/provider settings for multiple named companions.
Reliability and safety work
- Stable resource-based network packet IDs prevent registration-order desync and virtual-LAN/tunnel disconnects.
- Configurable conversation compaction reduces unnecessary long-context stalls.
- Recoverable JSON state with backups for conversations, tasks, memory and configuration.
- Local secret protection and diagnostic redaction.
- Public-URL validation and bounded HTTP behavior for optional web access.
- Configurable companion attributes, respawn behavior and creative-grade absolute invulnerability.
Supported environment
- Minecraft: 1.20.1
- Mod loader: Forge 47.x (built against 47.4.20)
- Java: 17
- Side: Client and server
- Multiplayer: install the same Numen-Re JAR on every participating client and server
- Required separate mods: none
Installation
- Install Forge for Minecraft 1.20.1.
- Put the Numen-Re JAR in the
modsfolder on the client and server. - Start the game and open the companion roster/workspace (default key:
G). - Configure a provider, model and your own API key.
- Summon a companion in the UI, or use
/numen_re player summon <name>.
Numen-Re does not include API access, free inference or provider credits. Provider availability, pricing, model IDs and capabilities are controlled by each provider.
