Nyu: The Rival

You are no longer the only one growing stronger in your world.

Nyu: The Rival introduces a persistent rival to your survival adventures. Nyu wanders the world, hunts animals, fights monsters and can turn her attention toward you. She is not a stationary boss waiting in an arena: encounters happen while you explore and develop your world.

What does the mod add?

  • A persistent character: Nyu has a saved identity and progression, making her an ongoing presence rather than another randomly spawning enemy.
  • Progression alongside the player: her equipment improves as player equipment advances, bringing stronger opposition to later encounters.
  • Combat and retreat: Nyu fights at close range, evaluates nearby threats and can retreat instead of staying in a fight she is losing.
  • Limited healing supplies: she carries food to recover, giving you opportunities to pursue her or use the interruption to recover yourself.
  • Rivalry tracking: the mod records victories, defeats and other encounters, alongside rivalry and respect values.
  • Administrative commands: commands are available to inspect Nyu’s status and manage her presence for testing or server administration.

How does this change survival?

Exploration gains a recurring opponent with her own activities. You might find Nyu hunting nearby, encounter her while travelling, or face her again after improving your equipment. Fighting her is not only about dealing damage: knowing when to approach, pursue or pull back matters too.

Her presence brings an ongoing rivalry into the world without requiring a separate dungeon or boss arena.

Early development

Version 0.6.1 is an early public build. It introduces the foundations of Nyu’s behaviour and progression. Her appearance and features will continue to develop in future updates.

Requirements: Minecraft Java Edition 1.20.1 and Forge. Install the mod on both the client and server when playing multiplayer.
