Description

Quickstart

  1. Craft the Obsidian Mercy Stick using the recipe below.
  2. Equip it in your main hand.
  3. Hit any mob (not a player) with it—one solid hit and they're left clinging to life at 1 health, never dying from the blow.
  4. Finish them off with another weapon, tame them, capture them, or just walk away and let them live.

Overview

The Obsidian Mercy Stick is a unique combat item built for control rather than kills. Instead of dealing lethal damage, it strikes down a target's health to the brink of death without ever finishing the job. It's perfect for non-lethal takedowns, mob capturing setups, farming knockback-style interactions, or just messing around without accidentally killing something you wanted to keep alive.

What It Adds

  • Obsidian Mercy Stick — a sword-type weapon with a permanent enchantment-like glint, slow swing speed, and a special "mercy" effect on hit.

How To Use

  • Hold the Obsidian Mercy Stick in your main hand and attack a mob normally.
  • On a successful hit, the target's health is forced down to 1, and the hit itself cannot kill them, no matter how much damage it would normally deal.
  • This mercy effect only works on non-player mobs — hitting other players deals damage normally with no special effect.
  • Because of its very slow attack speed, it's best used as a utility tool for setting up a mob rather than as a primary combat weapon.
  • The stick counts as a sword, so it works with sword-related interactions, but it hits for very little raw damage on its own.

Crafting And Obtaining

Craft the Obsidian Mercy Stick with obsidian and sticks arranged in a crafting table.

Abilities And Mechanics

  • Mercy Strike: Any hit landed on a living, non-player mob overrides normal damage and instead sets that mob's health to 1, guaranteeing it survives the hit.
  • Player Safe: Attacking another player with the stick does not trigger the mercy effect — it behaves as a very weak, slow weapon in PvP.
  • Single Item Stack: Only one Obsidian Mercy Stick can be held in an inventory slot at a time, emphasizing its role as a special-purpose tool rather than a stackable consumable.
  • Visual Glint: The stick always has a magical shimmer, marking it as a special item even without an enchantment.

Progression And Strategy

Use the Obsidian Mercy Stick to soften up dangerous mobs before finishing them safely with another weapon, or to knock hostile creatures down to critical health for capturing, taming setups, or simply observing them up close without risk of accidentally killing them. Its slow swing speed means it's best paired with a second weapon on your hotbar for regular combat, switching to the Mercy Stick only when you want to spare a target's life at the last second.
