Description

Starter Shulker Box

This simple datapack automatically gives every player one free Shulker Box the first time they join a world or server.

Datapack vs Mod

The Datapack can be added to the datapacks folder of a server world or the datapacks menu of the single player world creation screen - available even in the Vanilla minecraft client. The Mod can be installed in a Modded Setup for the feature to be enabled on any new world after that point. Admittedly I have only tested the Fabric packaging as that's what I use but that's worked flawlessly so I'm going to trust Modrinth for the others.

Version Compatibility

The Datapack is configured for Minecraft versions 1.21.x through 26.2.x. But because it relies entirely on fundamental Vanilla commands, it should work on any version with shulker boxes (even if the game menu says "incompatible"). The Mod may not experience the same flexibility - if you get used to using the mod and a new version of the game comes out that the mod isn't configured for, consider importing the datapack into your new worlds until a new version of the mod can be packaged.*

How It Works

Upon joining, the datapack runs a check using a silent, hidden advancement. It then grants the Shulker Box. As long as the Datapack isn't removed, this should never trigger more than once for a given player.

A Vanilla-Friendly Approach

This provides a standard, unmodified Shulker Box. If a player loses or destroys it, they will not receive a replacement. It is designed to be a lightweight alternative to complex backpack mods - giving players a little extra starting inventory space right from the get-go without needing to enable world cheats.

Perfect for Multiplayer

An ideal, drop-in solution for server administrators wanting to guarantee a fair start for everyone. It completely eliminates the need for communal "starter shulkers" at spawn where players might take more than their fair share.

* I'm new to the auto packaging but my inferance would be that the "configured for x versions" would be translated into a stricter limitation with the mod - where the datapack menu will warn you that it may be incompatible but still let you try it, Mod launchers usually just fail at the lack of explicit support for the current version.
