About

Description

Pantry is a configurable food spoilage and preservation mod. Food loses freshness over time, proper storage keeps it fresh longer, and ocean water can be boiled into salt.

It adds a light survival rhythm without deleting your supplies: use older food first, preserve what you want to keep, and build storage suited to the world around it. Spoiled food remains edible, though eating it may carry configured penalties.

Ten Minecraft foods cycling through representative Fresh, Stale, and Spoiled Pantry states.

Food Ages Without Disappearing

Most foods progress through Fresh, Aging, Stale, and Spoiled stages over world time. Fresh food behaves normally. Depending on the item and your settings, stale or spoiled food may apply eating penalties, but Pantry never deletes it from your inventory.

Freshness bars make batches easy to scan, and compatible batches can still stack. When batches combine, freshness is weighted by item count, so one fresh or old item cannot reset the whole pile.

Freshness Carries Into Cooking

Wheat, cocoa beans, pumpkins, eggs, mushrooms, kelp, and other food-making ingredients age too. Their quality carries into bread, cookies, pies, stews, gilded foods, and other supported recipes. Baking can help, but it cannot turn ruined ingredients into perfect food.

Vanilla cake follows the same rules. Its ingredients affect the finished cake, every slice shares one freshness history, and sneaking with an empty hand lets you inspect a placed cake before eating it.

Preserve What Matters

Food can be salted, smoked, or dried. Preservation methods can also be combined, such as Salted + Smoked, while golden foods use their own Gilded preservation.

Preservation slows future spoilage and can recover some quality. It does not erase a food's history, and badly spoiled supplies will not come back perfect.

Salt From The Ocean

Ocean water can be collected in buckets or bottles, stored in saline cauldrons, and boiled in a furnace:

  • 1 Salt Water Bucket = 12 Salt
  • 1 Salt Water Bottle = 4 Salt
  • 1 full saline cauldron fills 3 Salt Water Bottles

Placed salt water behaves like water, but player-made pools cannot create endless salt. The water may refill; the recoverable salt does not.

Build Better Storage

A sealed underground room can slow decay, deeper cellars can help more, and nearby ice or copper chests can improve a good setup. Open stairways and vents weaken it. Lava, warm depths, hot climates, and the Nether make storage worse.

Cold and freezing biomes help a little, and high-altitude storage gets a smaller bonus than a proper cellar. Carried food and portable containers receive weaker environmental effects than placed storage.

There is no special cellar block. If the room works like a cellar, Pantry treats it like one.

Configuration

Pantry uses YetAnotherConfigLib (YACL) for its config screen, with optional Mod Menu support. Freshness display, spoilage speed, eating penalties, stacking, preservation, salt water, and environmental storage can all be adjusted.
