Description

Phayriosis: Cataclysm

Phayriosis: Cataclysm is a Forge addon for Phayriosis Reborn that turns infection into a growing world-scale threat.

Instead of simply adding more enemies, Cataclysm gives the infection a progression system, new spreading methods, siege behavior, battlefield evolution, and smarter survival pressure. The longer the infection feeds, the more dangerous the world becomes.

Core Idea

The infection now gathers biomass from killing living creatures. As biomass increases, the world advances through infection stages, unlocking stronger mechanics and making infected mobs more aggressive, durable, and coordinated.

Villages, farms, player deaths, waterways, caves, and fortified bases can all become part of the outbreak.

Features

Biomass-Driven Infection Stages

The infection grows stronger over time and through combat.

  • Infection mobs gain biomass by killing vanilla mobs, farm animals, villagers, and players.
  • The world tracks a global infection stage from 1 to 10.
  • Higher stages unlock more dangerous mechanics.
  • Stage and biomass data are saved with the world and synced to players.

Infection Core

When a player dies to the infection, an Infection Core can appear at the death location.

  • Pulses infection into nearby blocks.
  • Converts terrain into flesh, roots, and tendrils.
  • Creates a lasting consequence for dying to the outbreak.
  • Configurable duration and infection radius.

Spore Artillery Towers

Spore Artillery Towers act as biological bombardment structures.

  • Periodically fire spore projectiles.
  • Spores damage non-infected entities.
  • Impact zones are converted into infected terrain.
  • Useful for turning safe areas into active outbreak zones.

Deep Root Network

The infection can spread underground through Deep Roots.

  • Converts stone, dirt, deepslate, gravel, sand, mud, and other natural blocks.
  • Expands downward and sideways.
  • Supports a more persistent subterranean infection layer.

Contaminated Water

Water is no longer safe once the infection reaches it.

  • Infection can contaminate nearby water.
  • Contaminated water spreads through connected water blocks.
  • Living entities inside may receive poison and nausea.
  • Makes rivers, lakes, caves, and farms vulnerable.

Siege Behavior

At higher infection stages, infected mobs can become a real threat to player defenses.

  • Siege mobs may break soft blocks when pathing to a player fails.
  • Block breaking respects a configurable hardness limit.
  • Encourages stronger base design instead of relying on simple walls.

Battlefield Fusion

Phayriosis mobs can merge into stronger forms if left unchecked.

  • Nearby compatible infection mobs can begin a fusion process.
  • Fusion can create higher-tier Phayriosis Reborn entities.
  • Merged results can receive increased health and damage.
  • Players are encouraged to disrupt clusters before they evolve.

Swarm Calls and Hunting Mode

Combat against infection mobs becomes more dynamic.

  • Some infected mobs can alert nearby infection mobs to a player.
  • Swarm calls grant nearby mobs a temporary speed boost.
  • Repeated successful hits can trigger hunting mode, giving short buffs to speed, strength, and resistance.

Adaptive Carapace

High-stage infection mobs can adapt to repeated damage patterns.

  • Consecutive hits of the same damage type can activate resistance.
  • Active carapace reduces incoming damage for a short time.
  • Encourages players to vary weapons and tactics.

Disguise System

Some Phayriosis mobs can disguise themselves as ordinary creatures.

  • Disguises are learned from combat interactions.
  • Disguised mobs can appear as familiar vanilla entities.
  • Attacking has a chance to reveal the disguise.
  • Adds paranoia to encounters in infected worlds.

Added Content

Blocks:

  • Infection Core
  • Spore Artillery Tower
  • Deep Root Network
  • Contaminated Water
  • Flesh Mass
  • Hardened Carapace
  • Tendril Cluster

Items:

  • Biomass Sample
  • Spore Sac
  • Neural Fragment

Entities:

  • Spore Projectile
  • Fused Horror

Commands

Operators can inspect and control the infection stage:

/phayriosis stage query
/phayriosis stage <1-10>

There is also a testing command for spawning disguised Phayriosis entities:

/phayriosis spawn <phayriosis_entity> <mimic_entity>

Configuration

Most systems are configurable through the common config file:

  • Maximum infection stage
  • Passive biomass growth
  • Biomass gained from different kill types
  • Stage thresholds
  • Spore tower range and firing interval
  • Infection core duration and radius
  • Root spread depth
  • Water contamination radius and speed
  • Siege block hardness limit
  • Fusion radius and charge time
  • Swarm alert radius and cooldown
  • Adaptive carapace strength and duration

This makes the mod suitable for anything from a slow-burn survival infection to a brutal apocalypse-style modpack.

Compatibility

  • Minecraft: 1.20.1
  • Loader: Forge
  • Forge version: 47.x
  • Designed for: Phayriosis Reborn 0.3.0+

Phayriosis Reborn is strongly recommended, as most of Cataclysm's systems are designed around its infection mobs, tiers, and blocks.

Recommended For

This addon is best for players and modpack creators who want:

  • A more dangerous infection experience
  • Long-term world corruption
  • Smarter hostile pressure
  • Stronger consequences for player deaths
  • Base defense gameplay
  • Escalating apocalypse-style survival

Notes

Cataclysm is designed to make infection feel alive, adaptive, and difficult to fully contain. If the outbreak is ignored, it will spread. If infected mobs are allowed to gather, they may evolve. If players keep using the same tactics, the infection may adapt.

Build carefully. Burn thoroughly. Do not trust quiet villages.
