Description
Phosphoros: Purple Mysteries
Phosphoros, "the light-bringer": the morning star.
Somewhere along the coast lies the wreck of an Alexandrian galley. Its stern chest holds the Lecture Notes of Doctor Ammonius, philologist and survivor of the Library of Alexandria. They are rude, they are mostly footnotes, and they explain how to reach the Lightfall.
✦ The Lightfall
A whole new dimension of eternal violet dusk: floating islands over a glowing purple sea, under a vast morning star. Ruined spires, sunken shrines, drowned choirs and the rare Morningstar Citadel. Mend a Fallen Altar, wait for dusk and strike it with the Totem of Lucifer to open the gate. Getting home is always possible.
✦ Doctor Ammonius
A fully voiced, very animated philologist NPC, with real voice clips of Dr. Ammon Hillman (used with his permission) and subtitles for every line. Hold Office Hours with him in the Library: bring him what he asks for, hear a short lecture for every hand-in, and graduate with a Diploma and a Mortarboard. Watch out for the Peer Reviewers, who throw monographs and shout "Citation needed!".
✦ The Garden of the Gods: ancient crops
- Silphium, worth its weight in silver, until you over-harvest it and it goes extinct again.
- Moly, Hermes' gift: protection against Mania, witch curses and Hekate's hounds.
- Eleusinian Barley for bread and Kykeon.
- Purple Ambrosia, the glowing food of the gods.
✦ Galen's Theriac Crock
Seal up to ten coded herbs in a Theriac Crock and age them into a ten-day Imperial Theriac. Plus Dusk Poppies, Tyrian Murex snails for emperor-grade purple dye, and Brain Soaps.
✦ Dionysus and the Crown of Thorns
A life-sized, fully robed Dionysus hangs over the Library door. Take him down, set his statue on a T of four logs and he comes to life as a loyal follower. Hand him a bottle of water and it is finished... fermenting. The Crown of Thorns lets you walk among the Lightfall's creatures in peace, until you strike one.
✦ The Library of Alexandria
A huge, multi-floor library floating on its own island, full of books, paintings, codices and Doctor Ammonius himself.
✦ The Hydra and the Labyrinth
Down in a flooded chapel the Hydra waits: cut off a head and two grow back, so bring fire. High in the sky floats the Labyrinth of the Lady, its dead ends guarded by Hekate's hounds. Pull your Red Thread to find the way to its heart.
✦ And more
Bacchant packs at marble wine fountains, mounted Scythian Huntresses, Hekate's Crossroads Shrines, the Eleusinian Mysteries, an On Air radio studio, an original chiptune music disc, the Drakaina of Delphi, the Asklepieion healing temple and a trail of advancements to guide you.
Every feature can be switched off in the config.
Requirements
- Minecraft 1.12.2, Forge (tested on 14.23.5.2859).
- Install on both client and server.
- Optional: The Aether (1.12.2) adds extra Lightfall content. It is not required and not bundled.
Upgrading from "Totem of Lucifer"
Phosphoros: Purple Mysteries is the new name of Totem of Lucifer. The mod id is unchanged (lucifertotem), so
existing worlds, items and configs carry over. Remove the old lucifertotem-*.jar before adding
phosphoros-*.jar.
Audio credits
Doctor Ammonius is voiced by Dr. D.C.A. (Ammon) Hillman, in short clips used with his permission (all rights reserved; not to be redistributed separately from the mod). The clips are excerpts from his guest appearances on the Danny Jones Podcast (Danny Jones), Heretics (Andrew Gold), The Higherside Chats (Greg Carlwood), Subconscious Realms, Wake The Dead (Sean McCann) and The Sacred Speaks (John Price). Thanks to all of them. The per-clip source list is in CREDITS-AUDIO.md. Rights holders can reach us at [email protected] for credit changes or removal.
The "Devil's Flight" music disc is an original chiptune made for this mod.
