Random starters, and it's fun 'cause you spin for them. You know, quirky style.

A side-mod for Pixelmon that swaps the starter screen for an animated display that gives you three random Pokémon to pick from.

⭐ So what does it do? 🤔

Like, very obviously everybody who plays Pixelmon is a familiar with the starter screen. This rips that out and drops a randomizer interface in its place. Three reels spin, each one lands on a random Pokémon, and you pick one of the three to keep.

Video of the starter screen reels spinning and showing choices.

Every world rolls a new set, so you're not opening with the same thing every save. It keeps Pixelmon's actual starter screen too, the animated background and the border and all that, it just puts reels where the old starters used to sit.

Singleplayer or server-side, and it needs zero setup.

🎰 How the spin works 🎲

All three reels take off at once. The left one slows down and locks in first, then the middle, then the right, and you're left looking at your three options. Click the one you want, hit begin, and it's in your party at level 5.

Spin, pick, play. Whatever you land on is already decided by the mod, the reels are just there to make it fun to watch it happen.

🎨 Rarity, by color 💎

Every tile has a color behind the sprite, and that color tells you how strong the Pokémon is off its base stat total:

  • Grey is Common
  • Green is Uncommon
  • Blue is Rare
  • Purple is Epic
  • Gold is Legendary

So when the reels stop you can tell right away whether you hit something strong or something you'll want to grind up. None of the gold ones are actual legendary Pokémon by the way, gold just means a really high base stat total.

Also, if you use any of the configurable settings to change the lineup, the tiles will all default to Grey to avoid the mod having to do any large scale base stat total calculations and averaging nonsense. That's just a waste of resources/performance lol

🔧 Config, if you want it 🔨

Defaults are already on and set how I'd run it, but if you want to change how it works it's all in the config:

  • Max IVs are on by default, so whatever you pick shows up with perfect IVs. Turn it off if you'd rather earn them.
  • No Choices mode skips the screen completely and just hands you one random Pokémon when you join.
  • Blacklist to keep certain Pokémon out of the pool. Paradox Pokémon sit in there by default, pull them off the list if you want them showing up.
  • Whitelist to lock the pool down to only the Pokémon you list.
  • All Pokémon mode opens it up to the whole dex, with toggles to cut legendaries, ultra beasts, or entire evolution stages.

You don't have to open any of it to play.

🗃️ Compatibility 🛢️

  • Requires Pixelmon 9.3.16. That's the current version as I write this, so hopefully I remember to update this when that changes.
  • Works in singleplayer and on servers, and gets along with my other Pixelmon side-mods.
  • If you run my Ability Randomizer, it fits right in. Click a Pokémon on the spin screen and it shows that Pokémon's ability too.

Put it on the server (or your singleplayer world) so it can hand out the starters, and on clients so they actually see the slot machine.

❤️ Thanks to the Pixelmon team 😁

None of this exists without Pixelmon. The team behind it has poured years into building and keeping up something this big, and I just get to build little add-ons on top of what they made. Genuine thanks to everyone on the Pixelmon dev team for the work they've put in and for still supporting it after all this time. Go check out the base mod and support what they do.
