About

Description

This is a simple mod that adds recipes for crafting string using a variety of different plant materials from Vanilla Minecraft, inspired by the fact that turning plant fibers into cordage or rope is a real survival craft. It also improves on the very limited usage some of these items have in Vanilla, and it makes acquiring string more accessible and realistic.

This mod gives new utility to the following items:

  • Grass                                  [ 3 Grass = 1 String
  • Tall Grass                        [ 3 Tall Grass = 2 String ]
  • Sea Grass                         [ 3 Sea Grass = 1 String ]
  • Tall Sea Grass               [ 3 Tall Sea Grass = 2 String ]
  • Vines                                  [ 3 Vines = 2 String ]
  • Bamboo                          [ 3 Bamboo = 2 String ]
  • Mangrove Roots        [ 3 Mangrove Roots = 2 String ]
  • Hanging Roots            [ 3 Hanging Roots = 1 String ]
  • Sunflowers                     [ 3 Sunflowers = 2 String ]
  • Dandelions                      [ 9 Dandelions = 1 String ]
  • Cactus                                [ 3 Cactus = 1 String ]
  • Wheat                               [ 6 Wheat = 2 String ]
  • Saplings (of any type)       [ 3 Saplings = 2 String ]
  • Rosebushes                   [ 3 Rosebushes = 2 String ]

All of the recipes are shapeless, so there's no particular placement needed to create them, plus any that require only 3 ingredients can be completed without a crafting table. I tried to make the recipe input & output amounts reflect the size & relative suitability of the plant materials used.

(Cactus may be a bit of a stretch, but they're included because technically their roots can be made into rope irl, and bamboo is similar in being an unexpected material that can be corded. Sunflowers, dandelions and rosebushes are included since they all have stems that can be braided or twisted together, and wheat is here too since straw can be made into a coarse rope as well.)

Anyways, I did my best to ensure the recipes don't conflict with any that exist in Vanilla Minecraft, but I can't guarantee they won't conflict with any modded recipes that use the same materials. User discretion is advised!
