About

Description

Polestar

A small client-side Fabric mod that gives the vanilla Spyglass a new purpose: navigating by the stars.

Look through a Spyglass beneath the Overworld night sky and search for the North Star.

Center it in your lens and a quiet chime will play, briefly revealing the cardinal directions around the edge of the Spyglass.

How it works

The North Star is fixed at true Minecraft north.

It can only be seen through a vanilla Spyglass under the night sky in the Overworld.

Finding the star is part of the mechanic — there are no arrows, waypoints, coordinates, or permanent HUD elements pointing you toward it.

Once you center the North Star in the Spyglass for a moment:

  • the star responds with a subtle visual cue
  • a quiet chime plays
  • N / E / S / W temporarily appear around the lens

Turn while the compass is visible and the directions rotate with you.

Where it works

Polaris works:

  • in the Overworld
  • at night
  • while actively using a vanilla Spyglass
  • with the Spyglass in either hand

The North Star is hidden when the sky cannot normally be observed.

It does not provide navigation in the Nether or the End.
