Similar to tipped arrows, you can now imbue effects onto melee weapons using lingering potions, which will apply the effect to the targeted entity.

About

Description

Potion Imbuement is a simple datapack that enables applying potion effects to melee weapons using the #potion_imbuement:imbuable item tag. By default, it supports all swords, axes, and spears. To imbue, drop (Q) a weapon and a lingering potion next to each other. All potions are supported including custom and modded* ones.

The mechanic follows the same duration divisor and usage count as tipped arrows ensuring all is fully consistant. Once the imbuement uses run out, restart the process.

POTION EFFECT NAMES ONLY DISPLAY FOR 1.21.5 AND ABOVE (MINECRAFT LIMITATION)

*For Creators

Because of how Minecraft handles potion items, modded potions are only compatible if they use the custom_effects NBT. If they are non-custom potion items, they will need to be registered using another datapack.
