Description

Quantum Entanglement

A NeoForge mod that ties several item stacks to one shared supply of items.

At the root of it is the old shadow item bug, rebuilt as a real game mechanic.

  • Tie up to four stacks together so they all draw on the same pile: take five iron out of any one of them and all four are five lighter
  • Keep one in your pocket and one in a chest at home, and unload your haul into your base from anywhere without walking back
  • Hoppers, droppers and machines handle them as ordinary items: a machine never ends up holding a window, only what is inside it
  • Read the shared supply with a comparator. Put one stack in a barrel and keep the other on you — wireless redstone with none of the machinery

Getting started

Everything is taught in game: hover over any of the mod's items or blocks and press W.

The short of it: Quantum Knots are only found in Ancient Cities, so the way in runs through the Deep Dark. Lay a 5×5 floor of amethyst blocks, put a Resonator on each corner and a Quantum Core in the middle. Set one stack on one Resonator and a Knot on the Core. The ritual hands you back two stacks that share it.

To grow a network, lay out all of its windows on the Resonators, leave at least one free and run the ritual again. Each ritual adds one more window, up to four.

The item has to be stackable and undamageable. If a rule is broken the ritual stops, your items stay where they are, and the Knot is spent anyway.

Recipes

Quantum Knots have no recipe: they are found in Ancient City chests and nowhere else. Everything else is crafted, and shows up in the vanilla recipe book once you are holding the ingredients.

Eye of Elsewhere

Crafting recipe. Top row: three ender pearls. Middle row: an ender pearl, an eye of ender, an echo shard. Bottom row: three echo shards. Yields two Eyes of Elsewhere.

Resonator

Crafting recipe. Top row: three amethyst shards. Middle row: an amethyst shard, an Eye of Elsewhere, an amethyst shard. Bottom row: three polished deepslate slabs. Yields one Resonator.

Quantum Core

Crafting recipe. Top row: an amethyst shard, an ender pearl, an amethyst shard. Middle row: an amethyst shard, an Eye of Elsewhere, an amethyst shard. Bottom row: three polished deepslate. Yields one Quantum Core.

What it looks like

One supply, two places. The same items in a chest and in the inventory at once — take from either and both counts fall together.

Two entangled stacks of redstone blocks, one in a chest and one in the player's inventory, both counting down together as items are taken.

A comparator reads the shared supply. A barrel holding one of the stacks reports what the other one is carrying, however far apart they are.

A barrel holding an entangled stack with a comparator reading it; the signal drops when the last item is taken.

So you can wire that up to anything. Taking the last item ends the network: the barrel empties, the signal drops to zero, and the torch inverting it lets go of every stick of TNT under the village.

Dropping the last item collapses the network, the comparator's signal falls, and the TNT under a village detonates.

The ritual that makes them. Four Resonators on a 5x5 amethyst floor, a Quantum Core in the middle, and a Quantum Knot spent to tie the stacks together.

The completed ritual circle: four Resonators on a five by five amethyst floor with beams converging on the Quantum Core in the middle.

Notes

Yes, you can put this in a modpack, and yes, you can make videos of it. No need to ask.

With a shader pack the ritual beams may come out white or not draw at all: how they are drawn is the shader pack's decision and the mod cannot override it. Nothing else is affected, and the mod says so in chat once when it notices one.
