Description
Rain Limiter
Rain Limiter is a lightweight server-side NeoForge mod that gives server owners more control over Minecraft weather without completely disabling it.
Instead of allowing rain and thunderstorms to continue for long periods, Rain Limiter lets you define the maximum duration of rain, the maximum duration of thunderstorms, and the minimum amount of clear weather required before bad weather can return.
This makes it ideal for multiplayer servers, modpacks, building servers, roleplay servers, or anyone who finds Minecraft's weather a little too frequent.
Features
- Set a maximum duration for normal rain.
- Set a separate maximum duration for thunderstorms.
- Set a minimum clear-weather period between storms.
- Change all timings while the server is running.
- Settings are saved and remain after server restarts.
- Lightweight and designed for minimal performance impact.
- Server-side only — players do not need to install the mod themselves.
- Operator-only configuration commands.
- Supports seconds, minutes, and hours.
Default Settings
By default, Rain Limiter uses:
- Maximum rain duration: 5 minutes
- Maximum thunderstorm duration: 5 minutes
- Minimum clear duration: 3 hours
These values can be changed at any time using the commands below.
How to Use
Rain Limiter is controlled using the /rainlimiter command.
You must have operator permissions or permission level 2 to change the settings.
View Current Settings
Use:
/rainlimiter status
This displays the currently configured rain, thunderstorm, and clear-weather durations.
Change Maximum Rain Length
Use:
/rainlimiter set rain <duration>
Example:
/rainlimiter set rain 5m
This limits normal rain to a maximum of 5 minutes.
Other examples:
/rainlimiter set rain 30s
/rainlimiter set rain 10m
/rainlimiter set rain 1h
Change Maximum Thunderstorm Length
Use:
/rainlimiter set thunder <duration>
Example:
/rainlimiter set thunder 3m
This limits thunderstorms to a maximum of 3 minutes.
Other examples:
/rainlimiter set thunder 1m
/rainlimiter set thunder 10m
/rainlimiter set thunder 30s
Change Minimum Clear-Weather Length
Use:
/rainlimiter set clear <duration>
Example:
/rainlimiter set clear 3h
This forces at least 3 hours of clear weather after rain or a thunderstorm ends before bad weather is allowed again.
Other examples:
/rainlimiter set clear 30m
/rainlimiter set clear 1h
/rainlimiter set clear 6h
Reset to Default Settings
Use:
/rainlimiter reset
This restores the default settings:
- Rain: 5 minutes
- Thunderstorms: 5 minutes
- Clear weather: 3 hours

s— secondsm— minutesh— hours

Example Setup
For short storms with long periods of clear weather:
/rainlimiter set rain 5m
/rainlimiter set thunder 2m
/rainlimiter set clear 3h
This allows normal Minecraft weather to continue functioning while preventing long or excessively frequent storms.
Installation

Place the Rain Limiter JAR into the server's
modsfolder. -
Start or restart the server.
