About
Description
Unofficial fan project. Retro64 Plus is not affiliated with or endorsed by Nintendo. Super Mario 64 and its characters belong to Nintendo. The mod contains no game data: you need your own Super Mario 64 (USA) ROM, and everything Mario-related is read from it on your computer.
Retro64 Plus lets you play Minecraft as Mario, with the real Super Mario 64 moveset and physics. It runs the game's own movement code (libsm64) on your ROM. Triple jumps, wall kicks, long jumps, dives, ground pounds and swimming all work exactly as they do in the game. It's a ground-up rewrite of the Retro64 mod, then a lot more on top: working caps, a power meter for your health, coins, Power Stars and SM64's enemies.
Runs on Windows x64 and Linux x64 (not macOS). On first start the game asks for your ROM (
.z64,.v64or.n64). It's copied into the game folder and never changed.

Be Mario
- Press M to turn into Mario, and again to turn back. WASD is the stick, Space jumps, Shift is Z, Left Alt punches (B). A gamepad works out of the box.
- Play as Mario, Luigi, or your own skin on a blocky body that moves like Mario.
- SM64's voice, sounds and (optional) music. Other players hear your Mario from where you are.
- Multiplayer: everyone sees everyone's Mario, caps and moves. Game rules can force Mario for everyone, or turn him off; the server picks which characters are allowed.
Fight and smash
- SM64's punches, kicks, dives, slide kicks and stomps hit mobs, scaled to vanilla weapons.
- The ground pound breaks glass, leaves, ice and plants under you, presses buttons and levers, and sends out a small shockwave. Protection mods and spawn protection are respected.
The power meter
- Your health stays Minecraft's (armor and potions work), shown as SM64's 8-segment power meter.
- SM64's knockback, falls and lava damage, and healing at the water surface. SM64's death animation.
Caps
- Wing Cap: fly after a triple jump.
- Metal Cap: sink, walk under water, shrug off almost everything.
- Vanish Cap: turn see-through, walk through glass, bars, fences and doors, and mobs ignore you.
- Each has its music and timer, then recharges. Craft them or find them in structure chests.
Coins, stars and the shop
- Coins pop out of the mobs you beat, the grass and ores you break, and structure chests. As Mario they heal you, as in SM64. Half of them scatter when you die.
- Power Stars: 100 coins in a dimension without dying, the first kill of each boss, every challenge advancement. Mario does the star dance. Each star makes caps last longer and recharge faster.
- Coin Shop: a market stall block. Spend coins (and stars) on caps, the Recharge Mushroom, food and valuables. Server owners set the stock.
SM64's enemies
Drawn with the real models and animations from your ROM, with SM64's behavior and sounds:
- Goomba: charges you; stomp it flat.
- Bob-omb: lights its fuse and chases you. Pick it up with a punch and throw it.
- Koopa Troopa: runs from you. Knock it out of its shell and ride the shell.
- Chain Chomp: guards its post in its own yard and in some villages. Ground-pound the post three times to set it free.
Goombas, Bob-ombs and Koopas spawn at night beside vanilla monsters (a server setting controls the rate). All of them drop coins and have spawn eggs.
Settings
A config screen (YetAnotherConfigLib; Mod Menu on Fabric) for your character, music, the power meter and the coin counter, and a gamepad. Servers have a settings file for attack damage, characters, coins, caps, the shop, enemy spawns and more. In English, German, Spanish, French, Brazilian Portuguese, Simplified Chinese and Japanese.
