RLFoliage

An unofficial Forge 1.20.1 continuation of RLFoliage — the mod that made leaves, grass, and a dozen other little details in Minecraft actually feel alive.

RLFoliage is itself a fork of Better Foliage by fonnymunkey, based on the original Better Foliage by octarine-noise (code) and Meringue (textures).

This port is not affiliated with or endorsed by either — it exists to bring the same look and feel forward to modern Forge.

What it does

  • Puffy round leaf overlays on every tree, generated live from the tree's own texture — including modded trees. Resource packs that retexture leaves are reflected correctly, with no stale or mismatched colors.

  • Grass and mycelium tufts

  • Underwater algae and reeds ("seaweed")

  • Coral on sand

  • Cactus thorns

  • Packed ice icicles

  • Lily pad roots and flowers

  • Falling leaf and rising soul particles for extra atmosphere.

  • Compatibility with several popular tree and foliage mods, including Traverse, Defiled Lands, and Dynamic Trees.

  • Dynamic Trees support includes leaf overlays that follow felled Dynamic Trees logs.

  • A full in-game settings screen through Mods → RLFoliage → Config.

  • Every feature can be individually toggled and tuned, with tooltips and one-click reset to default.

  • Works correctly with Embeddium (Sodium for Forge) and Oculus shaderpacks.
