Description

RL Sockets is a mod for Minecraft 1.12.2 Forge, designed with RLCraft in mind. It allows you to upgrade weapons and armor using sockets and gems that increase various stats.

Sockets and Gems

Each supported item can have up to 5 sockets. One socket token adds exactly one socket through standard crafting. The limit is not randomized — you can gradually add all five sockets.

Sockets come in three tiers:

Gems are inserted using a special Socketing Table. They can increase damage, attack speed, critical hit chance, critical hit damage, life steal, armor penetration, equipment durability, HP, armor, and armor toughness.

Appearance and Usage

Gems look like classic Minecraft items, such as diamonds or emeralds, with an enchantment glint effect. Their names indicate their tier: Common is white, Rare is blue, and Epic is purple. Sockets appear as magical enchanted orbs.

The Socketing Table features a decorative model with a crystal, glowing effects, and an interface displaying five socket slots. Craftable tools allow you to either remove the gem itself or remove the entire socket together with its contents. These tools lose durability when used.

Loot Acquisition

Default chances for obtaining an additional item:

A successful drop gives either one gem or one socket token, with a 50/50 chance. Mob drops require player participation in the kill. A boss that is also a Blight receives one additional drop.

Stats and Compatibility

The standard item tooltip includes gem bonuses directly in the displayed stats — for example, a sword with 7 damage and a +3 damage gem will display 10 damage. For items with custom tooltips from other mods, the bonus may be displayed separately.

Socket and gem data is stored in its own NBT section while preserving enchantments, custom names, and reforging data. The mod supports standard weapons and armor as well as many items from other mods. Unusual or unsupported equipment can be added through the configuration.

The current version is 1.0.6, distributed as a .jar file. The build and all 25 tests have passed, but full compatibility with the complete RLCraft modpack still needs to be verified in-game.
