Device-based moderation for Minecraft 1.21.1 — NeoForge and Java 21.

Rede Nerd DeviceGuard helps server administrators detect ban evasion by associating Minecraft accounts with pseudonymous device identifiers. A device ban can remain effective when a player changes accounts or IP addresses, provided the device fingerprint remains the same.

Features

  • Device bans: ban a known device and disconnect players using it.

  • Offline moderation: ban previously identified players by their stored name or UUID.

  • Ban list: view active device bans with associated players, Device IDs, reasons, administrators, and dates.

  • Account history: inspect accounts associated with a device and devices associated with an account.

  • Player consent: a notice appears before device identification is sent.

  • Singleplayer exemption: no verification or consent prompt for the owner of a singleplayer world.

  • Local storage: server records are stored in SQLite.

  • Cryptographic authentication: Ed25519 challenge-response signatures and server-specific HMAC Device IDs.

Installation

Install the same mod JAR on both the client and server.

Requires:

  • Minecraft 1.21.1

  • NeoForge 21.1.249

  • Java 21

By default, the server requires connecting players to have DeviceGuard installed. Remote players joining a LAN world are also subject to verification.

Administrative commands

Commands require operator level 3 or server console access.

/devicebanlist [page] List active device bans and associated players
/deviceinfo <player> View the player’s most recent device and associated accounts
/deviceban <player> <reason> Ban the player’s most recent known device, including while offline
/devicebanid <deviceId> <reason> Ban a device directly
/deviceunban <deviceId> Remove a device ban
/deviceaccounts <player> List accounts associated with the player’s most recent device
/devices <player> List known devices associated with an account
