About

Description

Runesmith adds one building and one worker to MineColonies: the Runesmith, who takes the colony's enchanted books and puts them on its armor, weapons and tools.

MineColonies' Enchanter turns Ancient Tomes into enchanted books, but nothing in the colony ever uses them: you have to carry each book to an anvil yourself. The Runesmith does that job for you, by the vanilla anvil rules and with no XP cost.

Where the gear comes from

  • The hut's racks. What you bring to the hut always comes first.
  • The colonists (on by default). The Runesmith walks over to colonists, guards first, and enchants the armor they wear and the weapon or tool in their hand, where they stand. A worker's tool is left alone if the enchantment would make it too good for the worker's hut.
  • The warehouse (off by default). The Runesmith borrows one piece at a time from a warehouse rack, enchants it at his anvil and puts it back where it was.

Books come from the colony: the hut asks the warehouse for the books its gear can take, and couriers bring them. When a piece in the racks is finished, a courier carries it to the warehouse, where your colonists can ask for it: a guard who needs a sword gets the enchanted one.

Rules

  • A book goes only on gear the vanilla anvil would accept it for: the right item type, and no enchantment that conflicts with one already on the piece.
  • Levels follow the anvil. Two equal levels make one level higher; otherwise the higher level wins. A level never goes above the enchantment's maximum.
  • A book is used whole or not at all, and it is spent only if the piece actually changes.
  • Curses are never applied.
  • The price is the book plus lapis lazuli, one per level of the book (a setting turns the lapis off). There is no XP cost, no rising repair cost, no renaming and no repairing.
  • Every action is written to the log with a [Runesmith] prefix.

Settings (in the hut)

Setting Default
Enchant armor / weapons / tools on
Book level limited by building level on
Only unenchanted gear off
Lapis lazuli per book level on
Visit colonists on
Borrow from the warehouse off
Send finished gear to the warehouse on

The building

Three looks, five levels each. You choose one in the build tool:

  • Forge Hall: a stone smithy with a steep tiled roof, an open forge and a massive chimney.
  • Rune Tower: a smithy hall with a dark tower of glowing runes at its corner.
  • Crystal Heart: a stone workshop under a green copper roof, with an amethyst crystal growing out of it.

Keep the books you want to save in your own chests, not in the warehouse: the Runesmith may use any enchanted book the colony has.

Requirements

  • Minecraft 1.21.1 with NeoForge 21.1
  • MineColonies 1.1.1300 or later (1.1.x), with Structurize, BlockUI and Domum Ornamentum
  • Needed on both the client and the server

Beta

This is the first public beta. Every rule was tested on a headless server, scenario by scenario, and in a MineColonies pack of more than 160 mods. A colony is a big place, though: if something goes wrong, please leave a comment with your logs/latest.log.
