Sharpened is a Minecraft mod that adds a new property to swords: sharpness. A sword can be either sharp or dull, and its damage changes depending on its sharpness.

The sword becomes dull as it is used. The sharper it is, the more sharpness it can lose from the same use. Cheaper swords dull faster, while higher-quality swords, such as Netherite Swords, dull much more slowly.

Sharpness works as a damage multiplier. The normal multiplier is 1×, which is considered the Sharp state. The lowest sharpness is around 0.5× damage, while the highest is around 1.7× damage.

Each time a sword is used, its sharpness decreases by a value between 0 and 1. The amount depends on the sword's current sharpness and its material/quality. The damage multiplier is calculated from the sharpness value using:

f(x) = 0.1x² + 0.6x + 1

where -1 is the dullest state, 0 is neutral, and 1 is the sharpest state.

Swords can be sharpened in two ways. The Handheld Sharpener can be kept in your inventory and used anywhere, but it is slower and damages the sword more while sharpening. The Sharpening Stone is a placeable block that sharpens swords roughly 4× faster and causes much less durability damage.
