About
Description
Lightweight client-side utility that hides the shield model in first-person view, so bulky shields stop blocking your screen and field of vision.
Client-side only — no server install needed. Fully compatible with singleplayer and multiplayer.
Free to use in any modpack — public or private, no permission needed.
What it does
- Hide in first person — removes the shield from your own view when you hold it, freeing screen space in combat and exploration.
- Modded shields too — not limited to
minecraft:shield. An item is treated as a shield if it is the vanilla shield, uses the game’s shield item type (ShieldItem), is in that build’s conventional shield item tag(s), or is listed in the config. - No name guessing — items are not guessed by name, model, or tooltip; otherwise only the config can hide them.
- Mechanics untouched — blocking, hitboxes, and how others see your shield (including third person) stay the same.
Configuration
Works out of the box with an untouched config and the vanilla shield — same hide behavior as before. Optional file: config/shieldhider.properties (created with comments on first launch; read once per launch).
extra_shield_items,extra_shield_tags— hide these in addition to the built-in rulesforce_visible_items,force_visible_tags— stay visible even when a rule matches (includingminecraft:shield)- Comma-separated entries; tags may omit
#; bare ids default tominecraft:
Details
- Client-side only — safe on vanilla and modded servers; no server-side logic or gameplay changes.
- Modded shields work via item type, tags, and config when their mod is installed.
