Terraria-style item chatting

This mod was originally just a random 3am thought:

It'd be cool if I could chat items like in Terraria

Many desk-slamming sessions later, we finally have it: A vanilla-style way to chat items

An image of an iron axe in the ingame chat

Using this mod

It's really simple, actually. After you have this mod and it's dependencies installed, just type [i] into the ingame chat to send your mainhand item, or [h] to send your entire hotbar.

The item that is being held in your main hand will be inserted into the chat!

Dependencies

  • Any recent version of fabric api

Notes

This mod must be installed on both the client, and the server in order to achieve full functionality.

Without the mod being installed on the server, players will just see blank text in chat in place of the tags

Without the mod being installed on the client, players will see a regular message without the item preview

This mod modifies client messages containing item tags ([i], [h]), causing the game to flag them as "insecure"

Suggestions

If you have any ideas or suggestons for new features that you'd like to see in this mod, go to this project's github, and create a new issue with the enhancement label
