🐍 Snakes Alive
Snakes Alive brings a more detailed and living snake ecosystem to Minecraft.
Instead of snakes being simple mobs that wander around, different species have their own sizes, behavior, diets, rarity, habitats, venom, movement styles, and survival mechanics.
🐍 Snake Species
Current species include:
- Garden Snake
- Corn Snake
- King Snake
- Ball Python
- Rattlesnake
- Cobra
- Anaconda
Different species have different aggression levels, sizes, diets, spawn rarity, and behavior.
Some snakes actively hunt live prey, while others prefer dead prey or dropped food.
🐀 Rats & Prey
Rats naturally appear in the world and act as an important food source for snakes.
Rats can:
- Run away from nearby snakes
- Be hunted by larger snake species
- Drop a Dead Rat body when killed normally
- Be picked up by players
- Be fed to compatible snakes
When a snake successfully catches and consumes prey, it enters a digestion period.
🍗 Realistic Feeding & Digestion
Snakes have different feeding preferences.
Some species hunt:
- Rats
- Chickens
- Frogs
Other species can eat:
- Dead Rats
- Raw meat
- Dropped prey items
After eating, snakes enter a Digesting state that greatly reduces their movement speed for a period of time.
🧬 Genetics & Breeding
Snake babies can inherit traits from their parents, including:
- Size
- Health
- Skin pattern
Breeding snakes produces snake eggs instead of instantly spawning a baby.
Eggs hatch after time has passed.
🥚 Snake Eggs
Snake eggs are available through breeding and Creative Mode.
After hatching, the baby snake uses inherited genetic traits from its parents.
☠️ Venom
Venomous species can apply the custom Snake Venom effect.
Venom can:
- Damage its target over time
- Reduce movement speed
Snake fangs can also be used to create Anti-Venom, which removes the venom effect.
🌿 Camouflage
Certain species can blend into their surroundings.
Camouflage can match environments such as:
- Grass
- Sand
- Stone
- Mud
- Vegetation
Camouflaged snakes can become harder for prey to detect, helping them ambush animals.
🐍 Molting
Snakes periodically shed their skin.
During molting:
- Their old skin visually changes
- Shed Skin can be dropped
- Their refreshed skin becomes brighter afterward
🌎 Species-Specific Behavior
Snakes do not all move the same way.
Depending on the species, they may:
- Wander across normal terrain
- Prefer lower terrain and caves
- Move downward through suitable paths
- Hunt prey
- Search for dropped food
- Rest while digesting
- Prefer water and underwater movement
Anacondas are especially adapted for water-based movement.
✨ Detailed Models
Snake models include multiple animated body sections rather than behaving like one rigid model.
Features include:
- Segmented bodies
- Animated tails
- Detailed heads and jaws
- Eyes
- Animated tongues
- Cobra hoods
- Rattlesnake rattles
- Species-specific textures
🎮 Creative Mode
Creative Mode includes spawn eggs for:
- Rats
- Every available snake species
This makes testing habitats, feeding, combat, breeding, and AI much easier.
📦 Requirements
Mod Loader: Fabric
Required: Fabric API
Supported Minecraft versions:
- Minecraft 1.21.11
- Minecraft 26.2
Each Minecraft version requires its matching Snakes Alive mod file.
🚧 Development Status
Snakes Alive is currently in active development.
AI behavior, spawning balance, animations, models, genetics, feeding behavior, and additional snake species may continue to improve in future updates.
More snakes and features are planned.
