Description
Unofficial port. This is not P3pp3rF1y's work, so please don't report issues with it to the original author.

Sophisticated Backpacks Legacy brings P3pp3rF1y's Sophisticated Backpacks to Minecraft 1.12.2: backpacks you wear, place and fit with upgrades that pick up, filter, compact, restock, feed you and swap your tools.
Requires Sophisticated Core Legacy 1.1.0 or newer. This is a separate project from Retro Sophisticated Backpacks; don't install both.
Original project and license
This is a port of Sophisticated Backpacks by P3pp3rF1y (source on GitHub). The original was open source under the GNU GPL v3 until February 2025, when its 1.20.x and 1.21.x versions switched to All Rights Reserved; its 1.16.x branch is still GPL v3 today. This port uses only GPL v3 code:
- the
1.16.xbranch at commit c650e8a (version 3.15.20, December 2022), licensed GPL v3; - for the copper and netherite backpacks, the
1.20.xbranch at commit bafaeb5 (version 3.23.4, 5 February 2025), licensed GPL v3, from before that branch switched to All Rights Reserved on 11 February 2025.
The GPL lets anyone port and change GPL code, as long as the result is also GPL, credits the author and ships its source. This port is GPL v3, with its full source on GitHub and on the Files tab, and it uses nothing from any version released under All Rights Reserved. How it differs from the original is listed under Differences from the original below.
Features
- Five backpacks: leather, iron, gold, diamond and Nether Star, dyeable in two colours, plus copper and netherite backpacks when a mod adds those metals.
- Wear it in the chest slot or the Baubles body slot, open it with a key, or place it as a block whose upgrades keep working.
- Upgrades: pickup, filter, magnet, void, restock, deposit, refill, feeding, compacting, everlasting, crafting, smelting and auto-smelting, smoking and blasting (with a mod's smoker or blast furnace), stonecutter (with a mod's stonecutter), tool swapper, jukebox, tank, battery, pump, XP pump, inception (backpacks inside backpacks) and stack upgrades, with advanced versions where the original has them.
- Tanks and batteries show on the backpack: the fluid level in each tank and the battery's charge, worn, placed or held.
- Settings: per-backpack and per-player settings, memory slots, no-sort slots, and an item display on the backpack.
- Open a friend's backpack by right-clicking their back (can be turned off in the config).
- A Shift tooltip previewing a backpack's contents, sorting, the
/sbackpackscommand, an access log, and backpacks in dungeon, mineshaft, temple, fortress, mansion and end city loot. - Works with Baubles, JEI, Mo' Bends (the backpack follows the animated body) and Aqua Acrobatics.

The upgrades
Differences from the original
- Baubles replaces Curios. The top backpack is the Nether Star one; copper and netherite backpacks appear when a mod adds those metals (the netherite backpack is crafted from a diamond backpack and an ingot, since 1.12 has no smithing table).
- The smoking, blasting and stonecutter upgrades appear when a mod adds a smoker, blast furnace or stonecutter (Future MC, VillagerBackport and others).
- With an upgrade tab open, shift-clicked items go to the backpack first and into the tab only once it's full, as the current original does (a setting switches it).
- The compacting upgrade also turns NoTreePunching rocks into their cobblestones (configurable).
Requirements
- Minecraft 1.12.2, Forge 14.23.5.2847 or newer (Cleanroom works too).
- Sophisticated Core Legacy 1.1.0 or newer.
- Optional: Baubles, JEI or HEI.
