Sprout Guard

Stops you from breaking crops that aren't fully grown. Young crops are shown low but covering the whole block, with a tiny hitbox, so gaps are easy to spot and replanting is easy. Hold Shift to break one anyway. Fabric, Minecraft 26.3.

Description
Sprout Guard
Ever smashed a whole row of wheat by accident, one swing too early? This mod fixes that.
Features
- Young crops can't be broken. Left-clicking a crop that hasn't reached its final growth stage does nothing. Fully grown crops break and drop as usual.
- Hold Shift to break anyway. Planted something in the wrong spot? Sneak and click to remove it.
- Young crops stay low. Every crop that isn't fully grown is displayed as a low carpet that still covers the whole block, whatever its growth stage. In a big field, any block where you forgot to plant shows up right away as bare soil. Once a crop is ripe, it instantly returns to its normal height, so you can tell at a glance what's ready to harvest.
- Tiny hitbox for young crops. All unripe crops share the same small hitbox, so you can aim at the soil between them and replant right away without your crosshair getting caught on the neighbouring plants.
What's affected
- Break protection: wheat, carrots, potatoes, beetroots, nether wart, cocoa beans, and the other crops of the vanilla crops tag (stems, torchflower, pitcher plant).
- Tiny look and tiny hitbox: wheat, carrots, potatoes, beetroots and nether wart.
Multiplayer
- Put the mod on the server and nobody can break young crops, even players who don't have the mod.
- Put it on the client too to see the tiny crops and get the small hitbox. Players without the mod see normal crops and the normal hitbox.
- The mod adds no new blocks or items, so players without it can still join your server.
Requirements
- Minecraft 26.3
- Fabric Loader 0.19.5 or newer
- Fabric API
- Java 25
FAQ
Does it change crop growth or drops? No. Growth speed, drops and farming behaviour are untouched.
Does it work with other mods? It should work with mods that add crops built on the vanilla crop blocks, but modded crops aren't specially supported.
Can I turn the tiny look off? Not in this version. There's no config file yet.
Found a bug? Please report it in the issues tab with your Minecraft version, a list of your mods, and the log if the game crashed.
