About

Description

Squint — see farther, or see less.

Client-side mod for Minecraft 1.21.1 (NeoForge & Fabric). Replace vanilla render cutoffs with per-category distances, optional ultra-far draw, and limits you control.

Why Squint?

Vanilla caps block entities and many entities around ~64 blocks. Squint lets you push distances out — signs, chests, banners, paintings, item frames, mobs — category by category, with a global multiplier and chunk-wide view mode.

When you do want to trim load, optional concurrent limits and adaptive FPS keep the closest content and drop the rest — without touching your distance settings.

Highlights

  • Far render — category distances up to hundreds of blocks; extend entity culling past vanilla
  • Chunk view mode — render block entities and entities out to loaded view distance
  • Sign text distance — separate from sign models
  • Concurrent limits (optional) — cap how many BE/entities draw at once, closest first
  • Adaptive FPS (optional) — auto-tighten limits to hold a target framerate
  • Cloth Config UI via Mod Menu · debug overlay for tuning

Details

  • Client only — no server install required
  • Config: config/squint.json or in-game via Mod Menu
  • Adaptive mode changes limits, not distances
  • Legacy config from dynamic_block_entity_view.json migrates automatically

  • Render Limits
Render Limits The mod allows you to limit the rendering of entities by category. For example, you can limit mobs to 640
