Static Hollow is a creepypasta survival-horror overhaul for Minecraft 26.3. Find the Forsaken Altar, wake it, and try to survive what it lets in. It starts as nine original creepypastas hunting you through the dark and keeps going for eight chapters: things from the woods, a living Flesh that eats the world one block at a time, a broken city, a buried laboratory, a flower the size of a mountain, a parasite that gets into anything with blood in it, a door at the end of the world, the thing that was here before the first picture, and a dead green sea two thousand blocks deep.

Every block, item and creature in the game is redrawn too: darker, colder and in HD.

THE BIG UPDATE (1.63.3)

The Big Update is out. Everything since 1.44.0: Chapters Five to Eight, the mod's own music, gear for every chapter, the cold and the thirst, and the Dead Water. The full list is in the file's changelog.

  • The Undertow stalks you. In the Black Below you can see its eyes out in the dark, turning as you turn. It learns how you move, where you come up for air and whether you carry a light, and it remembers. It eats when it's hungry, lost whales that wander into the void (it takes them crossways in its jaws and chews), and it only comes for you when it's starving.
  • The submarine Orpheus is a real submarine now: walk around its cabin, take the helm, ping the sonar, sleep in the bunks, cook in the galley, read the Watcher's chart.
  • The leviathans are three times the size and far worse to look at.
  • Compasses to the Forsaken Altar, the Murder Mansion and the Botanic Gardens.

Bugs squashed

  • A crash under shaders when you held the Relay Core to your ear, and a server crash when you were sent home from the Void or the Null Static Zone.
  • Cutscenes never played in the modpack.
  • Boss bars that stayed on screen wherever you went, and Specimen Zero's doubled bar.
  • The Chorus could never be driven off, and healed back to full mid-fight.
  • After the Hub, an invisible cutscene stayed over your screen and kept your mouse and inventory.
  • Coming into the End shut inside end stone; the Door at the End of the World going down inside rock, or never coming at all.
  • Armour that didn't follow your body with animation mods (hands through the sleeves), and held lights blinking dark between steps.
  • Missing-texture checkers on the chapter armours' lights under shaders.
  • Every door on the oil rig left a hole in the wall beside it (old rigs mend themselves).
  • /locate's teleport put you under the ground or high in the air.
  • Puddles waving and showing through blocks under Photon, and the submarine's dome a milky box.
  • 45 sounds that crackled at their loudest, and the giant flytrap's snap that never played.
  • Slow start-up and stutter from oversized HD item textures (now capped at 512 px).

How it starts

Every world has a Forsaken Altar, 500 to 1000 blocks from spawn. A ruined shrine rises around it as you come near. Right-click it with an empty hand, and from then on the nine hunt everyone in the world, mostly in the dark.

  • The Hollow Neighbor stalks you, knocks on doors, and talks to you through the window, pretending to be a friend.
  • Stitchjaw crawls flat like a lizard and climbs walls. Every bite tears the wound open further.
  • The Weeping Shepherd weeps, and stares back if you stare.
  • The Lullaby Mother steals villagers and drags you into the Hollow, a sealed black room under the world.
  • The Broadcast has a CRT television for a head. Don't look at it. Don't touch it.
  • The Little Lamb is a crying child who follows you. Hit it and it shows its real face.
  • The Hymnal floats, and its song weakens you and heals the others.
  • The Underneath waits under your bed. Get up in time, or it drags you down through the floor.
  • The Antlerkin imitates cows, pigs and sheep to lure prey, and runs you down at night.

And the Watcher never attacks. It just watches, waves, points, and sometimes stands right behind you.

Every creature has its own model, animations, sounds, death animation, drop and head. And in a ruined cathedral inside a walled graveyard waits the first boss, the Hollow Saint.

Act Two: the things from the woods

After the Saint falls, wake the Breach Altar. The nine are gone, and new things come instead: the Bunnyman, the Hookman, the Hogshead, the Porcelain Man, the Harvestman, Mothman, the Jersey Devil, Dogman and the Flatwoods Monster. Each one watches you from the treeline first. Put their heads on the pedestals in the Murder Mansion and the Watcher stitches them into the Mended, a boss with three phases.

Then the Glasshouse opens, the Gardener wakes, and three days after he dies, a rift tears open into the Bloom.

Phase Two: the Flesh

What the great flower was holding down comes up out of the ground: a column of raw muscle forty blocks high. The Flesh spreads, further every day. Grass turns to meat, stone goes veined and lit red from inside, and trees become sinew. Its infected climb out of the ground, and their hits infect you. Let it reach the top and you get up again as one of them.

  • Rosemont, a whole broken town: streets of wrecked cars, the police precinct, an army checkpoint, and its dead walking the streets.
  • The Rosemont Botanical Research Laboratory and the reactor two levels underground, with Specimen Zero asleep in the water.
  • Shelter No. 4, its bunkers, and the Front Assembly.
  • The Horde: some nights, ten to eighteen of the dead follow a bell through the dark to you.
  • Nests and Broodmothers, mutations, and the Great Bloom itself, which can swallow you alive.

Build the Rosemont Device. Build an orbital railgun and wake three more places: the Ashford Nuclear Plant, the Meridian Laboratory, and Blackwater Station, an island lab where something got loose. Then turn the Omni Ray on the Great Bloom.

Chapter Five: the Static

The Bloom is dead and the Flesh dies back with it, but the parasites are still out there. Static Hounds run in packs at night, a brood can grow inside you, and one villager in every village is Hollowed. The static isn't noise: it's them, talking, and something is carrying it.

  • Relay 6 on Hollow Ridge, and the Amalgam at the mast's foot: everyone who came to the relay, grown into one heap.
  • The Starlite Drive-in, the Afterimages still sat in their cars, and the Last Reel.
  • The Null Static Zone, a grey plain where everything that went into the static ran down to, and the Carrier in its crater.
  • The Outbreak. The parasite gets into anything: animals, villagers, monsters, golems, the warden. Watch the veins come up under its skin, then it turns. What it's done with gets up as one of the pure forms. Bosses turn too, and the Ender Dragon is the Infested Ender Dragon now.
  • The Hive, its Hive Hands, and the Chorus: a mound of everything it took, all its faces talking at once. Bring it down and it runs, into the Deep, a dimension of warm caverns and seas of blood under everything. Go after it.

Chapter Six: the Door at the End of the World

He shut the End. Now you find out why. Break his seal and walk through the Door into the Stalls, an old picture house's seats out in the dark in front of a screen two hundred feet wide. The Audience doesn't look round, but it hears you. The Ushers see you. Step out under the screen and they all come down and become the Crowd.

Behind the picture is the Watcher's Vault, where the Tuned only move while you're looking at them, and the Projectionist steps down out of the screens. Behind that is the Other Side: a stage, and past its edge a dark so big it has a shape. The Viewer is the last boss. You only ever fight its eye and its hands.

Chapter Seven: the First Signal

After the credits comes the Hub, a realm the Watcher made, with a replay portal for every chapter: go back and fight each chapter's last boss again. And then something tears the sky open and says ENOUGH. The First Signal was here before the first picture. Every bit of static you ever heard was it, asleep. It's awake now.

Chapter Eight: the Dead Water

  • The deep. In new worlds the oceans fall away to about 2,000 blocks below the waves, through the Sunless Drop, the Hadal Dark and the Trench. The Shroud Ray, the Needlemaw and the Static Leviathan live down there.
  • The rig. The fall from the Hub ends on an oil rig in a dead green sea that goes on forever: bunks, a mess, an infirmary, a greenhouse, a radio room, an armoury. Mend the Remote to get home.
  • Twelve waters, each with its own colour, floor, plants, light, sound and music, from the blood-red Haemal Reach to the Molar Reef, a reef of teeth and gum. Fish school, hunt, hide and get curious about you. Things are buried in the sea floor, like the Mouth of the Floor.
  • The Black Below, two hundred blocks deeper than the rest and near black. Only one thing lives in it: the Undertow.
  • The submarine Orpheus: thirteen blocks long, with a cabin you walk around in. It has floodlights, sonar, a claw, pressure plating, and a hull that cracks past its rating.
  • The harpoon gun, marine flares, air tanks, and the Watcher's chart of the whole sea.

Surviving it

  • Cold and thirst. A warmth dial and a thirst bar. The canteen, murky or clean water, frost creeping over your sight in the cold and heatstroke in the heat. Settings are in config/statichollow-vitals.properties.
  • The Hollow's own country. Five new biomes in new worlds: the Hollow Moor, the Blightwood, the Weeping Fen, the Antler Woods and the Signal Flats.
  • Gear for every chapter. Seven armour sets with full-set powers, fourteen weapons with right-click abilities, and twenty-eight tools, all real 3D models that move. Every creature head can be worn.
  • Combat that hits. Every weapon and tool swings its own way, with a flash and sparks where the blow lands and a sound for every hit.
  • Shooting stars and fallen stars, grave candles and bone piles that share a block, and every recipe in the recipe book.

The look and the sound

  • Built in, nothing to switch on: a grey, bruised sky, a red sun, thick cold fog, and murky black-green water. Every texture is redrawn at 4x resolution. The Enderman is all new.
  • Shaders and HD: a LabPBR resource pack of bump and gloss maps for shader packs (Static Hollow: Shader PBR), optional HD packs at twice the resolution again (HD Models and HD World), and Static Hollow presets for Photon, Hysteria and Insanity (Fabric).
  • Animation: every creature is rigged and animated, and the weapons and armour are real 3D models that move.
  • Music: none of Minecraft's music plays any more. The mod's own follows the story: a lullaby for every kind of place, a theme for every chapter, and a score for every boss.
  • Sound: hundreds of new sounds with subtitles, and every sound carries the reverb of where you are. Caves ring, wooden rooms are warm, through a wall it's muffled, and under water everything is heavy and dull.

Versions

  Forge Fabric
Minecraft 26.3 26.3
Loader Forge 66.0.9 Fabric Loader 0.19.5 + Fabric API
Java 25 25

Both versions play the same. The Fabric version also has the Mended guns (it needs TaCZ, which has no Forge build for 26.3) and the shader presets. Iris + Sodium are recommended.

Also supported: Static Hollow supports Water Erosion and Cinematic Interactions. They aren't part of the CurseForge modpack.

Make a new world. The sky, water and clouds are part of the world's data, and the deep oceans and the Hollow's country only generate in new worlds. Everything else comes to old worlds too.

Multiplayer: put the mod on the server and on every player's game.

Memory: give the game at least 8 GB with the HD packs.

The modpack

Static Hollow - Dead Channel is the easy way to play: the mod with everything set up, plus Iris, Sodium, Photon, Biomes O' Plenty, Serene Seasons, Puddles & Floods, Streams and more on the Fabric side. (Coming soon.)
